Oh, absolutely. I might. A friend of mind is finally escaping the Air Force and he's having a big huge 'do to celebrate so I'm not entirely sure how my night is gonna schedule out, but I'll see if it's any better with an episode viewed and mulled.

I finally brought both the mini-series and first Season on DVD as I havent seen it yet. Being a sci-fi fan I'm wasn't sure what to expect but hearing the chorus of yay out there, I've finally given in.
I just watched the mini series but I'm already interested in this post-apocalyptic universe. I'm quite surprise how good it is. Hopefully the series won't dissapoint.

Well, I watched the mini series, and I have mixed feelings about it. I found the first 45 minutes or so excruciatingly boring - I nearly turned the damn thing off, I was so bored. It perked up a bit once the Cylon attack on Caprica started, so I kept watching. I guess Firefly has spoiled me for sci-fi shows, really - I'm so used to the snappy, witty dialog and excellent characters. This mini series just doesn't do it for me in the same way - I found most of the characters quite dull and flat, and the same goes for the dialog. On the plus side, the visuals are great - I really like the modern way of doing cinematography - it's a visual treat. Once the action started it got a lot more interesting - at least, interesting enough to keep me watching (sometimes barely, though) until the end - and I will watch the following seasons, as I think it will get better. Well, I hope so, anyway. So basically, I didn't think it was great, but it's OK - for a modern sci-fi show, it's pretty decent. It certainly kicks the arse of the crapfest that was the original BSG series from the 80's....lol BTW - Apparently there's a Firefly ship onscreen, somewhere in the mini series - I found it - it's in the scene near the beginning where the soon-to-be president sees the doctor:

Joss is just evil enough to have a Cylon or daggit or something have a subliminl cameo on Serenity.

I finally finished watching season 1 and must say I am very impressed. I enjoyed every minute of it, and there wasn't an expisode that was boring or what I would have considered a filler. Of course there were only 13 episodes in all but it was great - hopefully they could keep the momentum. Like ITL mentioned above, it doesn't have witty script and one liner and I think that is what I love about it. It's darker, more serious, it is actually what I hoped Angel would have been but wasn't. It provided a whole other perspective for me that was seen in other shows. Growing up with Angel, Buffy and Stargate SG1, these were all shows that uses wit and funny moments mixed in with drama. But with BSG, it is more gritty, and the implication it provided isn't confused (not yet anyway). Unlike ITL, I personally think the characters have depth, everyone of them especially as I got to know them through each episodes. Looking back, the mini series didn't expand on their character enough. They have much more depth than the characters in Stargate Atlantis and maybe even SG1. Anyhow, I'm looking towards Season 2 with exciting and hope they don't screw it up as many series do as they run out of stories and loses momentum. I honestly havent been this excited about a series since Buffy. The bad points - it got a little heavy in drama which is to be expected, and a bit too religious which I think will make sense when the ends are tied. It deals more into the scifi elements and moral implications than the relationship aspect most shows do so can put casual viewers off.

It's good to have different takes on stories instead of the same approaches all the time-even when those approachs are good.
The variety insures that all of our facets get their mental exercise.
Anything that becomes too formulaic or cliched can get boring.
When any plot and any perpective can get a chance at being well executed, the audience doesn't get jaded.
If BSG does nothing else but prove that any idea can be redeemed by a serious treatment and skilled work,it will have earned its keep.

Having now watched half of season 1, I have to say that I vastly prefer it to the miniseries. It's faster paced, punchier, much, much better.

There's a Season 2 marathon on Thursday on SciFi, if anyone needs to catch up on it.

And I just finished the last 2 episode of season 3.
What the frak? Baltar got off? Again? That bastage has more lives than a cat. I know a lot of people just simply adore him, but I personally can't stand the weasally scoundrel. As soon as they were talking about some music that only some people here, I had a bad feeling in my stomach. At first, I thought it was only Anders who was a Cylon, and he was causing all the other people to hallucinate .... but frak. Now half the casts are Cylon. Kara .... yeeeeee! Can't wait to 2008. ;D

So now that it has been a year and a half since the show ended, what did you think?
Well, I have to say it disappointed me. A lot. The face that Starbuck was a frikkin Angel? Really? Was that their answer for Starbuck? Seriously? And there was no closure between her and Leoben at all! I was buy a lot of things, but that? Lost me. Also, the characters' journeys was determined by fate. That completely disappoints me. Also, how stupid was the decision to get rid of every single piece of technology? The five minute coda with Ron Moore also was cheesy. Didn't need it.
I did like endings for Baltar, Caprica, Hera, Helo and Athena. Oh, the Centurions. They deserve it. Up until the final 20 minutes of the episode, I was really buying. Great action, story, etc. It was really good. Loved Baltar's decision to fight.

Well, it would go on to become one of my favourite series, ever, but man do I have a hard time rewatching it.
