Mmmm Eliza ... er ... I mean ... er ... who cares. She's hot, want to make something of it?
In other nows bitterman about gave me a heart attack. He emailed me asking if I lived near a crazy dam that burst. I haven't watched television all day so I had no idea what he was talking about.
I said the only dam near here is Taum Sauk Reservoir and my parents house in the country is near there.
So I decided to go to CNN's website to see what he was talking about and imagine my surprise to find out it is that dam.
So I had to hurry and call my Mom to make sure Dad wasn't there. He usually goes there in the middle of the week but luckily he didn't do that this week.
tj, you remember Johnson Shut-Ins right? Well that whole area is flooded out. My Mom says it looks like a giant mudhole from what she saw on the news.
People's houses are gone, it uprooted trees, etc. It's a good thing that area isn't highly populated but it's still bad.
I'm just in shock and so glad to know my Dad wasn't there. I'm also surprised that I had to find out about it from someone who lives in Texas.

We had an interesting weather day today. They predicted 3-5" of snow for this morning. We had about half an inch by 8, but then it quit. By lunch it felt more like rain than snow. I don't know if it was freezing rain or just rain that froze later, but my car windows had a layer of ice on them when I left this afternoon.
Let's just say it was a fun drive home.

Upon further reading I just saw that they have evacuated Lesterville. That's where we went to school - my last three years of High School.
Black River twists all through that area so areas that are 20 miles apart by the roads are really close together as far as the river goes. I really want to drive out there and see for myself how bad it is but it's too dangerous to do that right now - and Enzo can't leave the county without written permission.

You can go to one of the local news sites here and see some video of the aftermath. The whole area is nothing but a ton of mud. Apparently a huge wall of water crashed through Highway N right by Johnson Shut-Ins state park and a guy driving by in a semi had to climb out of his truck and get on top of the cab until the water went back down.
Then he rescued the Park Superintendent who was up in tree in his underwear - it was 5:30 a.m.
The area is unrecognizable.

Have a great time, ITL, and Happy Holidays!
Cordy, that's terrible news. It was so beautiful there. Wow, things can really change fast, can't they?
Auntie, I'm glad you're home safe. Whew!
I was getting annoyed with trying to log in as me all the time over at the 'Fraud and getting an error message, so I finally gave up and I'll try again tomorrow.
For tonight, I've got rehearsal for one of those murder mystery parties a local bank is throwing. They're going to give us $350 and a meal for it, so we're going to try to be worth that.
I'll try to check in later, and I so can't wait to log in as me again. See ya!

Bye itl. We're going to miss you.
Have a great Christmas! ;D
I finished Veronica Mars season one today. Enzo and I really enjoyed it. We can't wait to begin season two. I'm burning the first two eps to disk so we don't have to try and watch it in here on my computer screen. I'm hoping it works out since I've never burned video to disk before. I'm using Nero and I followed the instructions so lets see what happens.
I'm also not sure about the download quality since I didn't want to be spoiled for season one.
Speaking of Season one, I just knew Logan's Dad was the killer. I totally didn't see Duncan as the rapist though. At least he didn't really rape her. I knew Logan didn't have anything to do with that. It didn't fit with his character. I was also sure that Duncan's Dad didn't murder Lily since he seemed to really love her. So, they thought Duncan did it and that's why they tried so hard to cover it up. That would be awful to come home and find one of your children dead and the other covered in blood. Especially since he's prone to fits of rage. No wonder they thought he did it. Even if they didn't think so, that's exactly what the police would have thought. I can't believe Veronica's Mom stole their $50,000 payout. That woman should be shot. I can't wait to start season two!

Lookit all the pretty pictures.
Me Happy. ;D Want more pictures. Picture Shiny!
So sorry to hear about the dam bursting. This year really seems like the year for floodings.
At least no one (?) was seriously hurt, besides
... and a guy driving by in a semi had to climb out of his truck and get on top of the cab until the water went back down.

the pride of the superintendant. Poor guy.

Cordy,I'm very sorry about the damage out your way.
I'm glad the loss of life and property wasn't any worse.
These things are so sudden and so thorough they really show us how tentative our lives are and how ephemeral the things we value can be.
We have all the more reason to treasure what and who we have and check to see what our priorities look like.
Give your Dad an extra hug and triple check your emergency preparedness (insurance, inventories, disaster kit, etc.)
You're never ready enough but the ills you plan for never seem to happen.
Be sure and have copies of all irreplaceable things like letters, baby pictures, etc. and have the originals in a safe place.
They're the things (along with life itself) that insurance can't replace.
The near misses (like when my neices husband missed being killed in 9-11) give you an eerie feeling from then on.
yellowcrayon and other friends touched by Katrina feel the same way.
If we have to feel fear and survivor's guilt, let us also feel gratitude and try to find some way of making our good fortune be a blessing to others.
Each day is a gift and each hour holds tragedies avoided.
Why we experience the joys and sorrows we do is beyond me but I am grateful that our paths (however pleasant or difficult to travel they might be) are leading us to one another.
We can gain and bestow strength from one another and that makes the journey worth the price we pay for the trip.
