Well, I'm actually an NA in the class (Non-affiliate) which means I'm paying for the thing myself and am not currently connected with any fire department. There are 8 of us in the class (out of 19 total. So, not too bad) The pay situation depends on the fire department. Generally speaking, most communites that aren't big cities have a chief (elected by the city council) and a couple of deputy chiefs, and maybe a lieutenant on paid full time. Beyond that they have what used to be called a volunteer department and is now called 'paid-on call' basically you get a pager and during the hours you have commited yourself to be on call when that pager goes off you get to the fire house. You're obligated to make 40% of calls during your time (which, if there are 10 calls on the day you happen to be sick or out of town can apparently be a job keeping up with) You're then paid by the number of calls you've responded to. You get paid twice a year. Mid december and mid other side of the year. Not a lot of money, but a little something.

Yup money is money and a little is better than nothing.
Pretty cool Py -- and sounds like it could be fun too.

If I know Py, there are certainly more side benefits to be had than others might appreciate.
