the phrases 'love' and 'random mess' are, in many ways, completely interchangeable

Tell us what we've done to deserve a respite from pining days and Py-less nights and we'll do it more often!

'Py'less Nights' sounds like it would make a great F/X show...

We're all still here! It's that whole pesty 'Real Life' thing that gets in the way of playing in HtH-land.
Real Life can be kinda fun, though. And pretty painful at the same time. Ce la vie, pendejos.

Sounds like there's more to the story than what you're telling us.
Tell me, does it involve barmaids?

Time certainly has flown.
Almost nothing has changed for me. And everything has.
I'll explain.
I'm still features editor in Minot, but the joy has gone completely out of that game. I'm 40 years old, I'm being paid like I'm in my late 20s and the workload has increased to cover work formerly done by about five people including myself -- it got shifted to my desk as people left and were let go. Along with a wage freeze, I am working 45-55 hours a week, occasionally more, for what I was paid three years ago, which is in the lowest third of my job title nationwide.
To give you a sense of the market, about two years ago I nearly found work as a features editor for a big pay bump in my hometown. I was on the short list, I had a great interview but ultimately they went in a /different direction/.
So, figuring I could at least find something manageable where I wasn't being actively abused by an employer Dickens might have dreamed up, I applied for a position working the admissions desk at the hospital.
I got a message when I got home today saying I'm supposed to give the guy a call.
The position might pay less than I'm making. During the interview, he said there's a formula applied by HR that takes my past experience into account, however, so it might not pay /significantly/ less than what I'm making.
I'll put whatever that number is up against the following:
- It's hourly, so that's time-and-a-half for holidays and overtime, otherwise, when I'm done with my shift, my time is my own. - All the staff people I've encountered at the hospital seem to genuinely enjoy their jobs, which is a very big difference from the paper right now. - The interview was one of the most positive interactions I've had with another person in awhile. He seemed to really like the answers I was giving to things, and he just seemed genuinely happy with /me/, which isn't a reaction I get much at work. - 40 isn't too late to completely change one's career. Seriously, I've looked, and there just is not a lot of opportunity in print right now, so while the market is trying to figure out how to become totally electronic, I'll still the next few out. - I can't think of a single way the news could stop me from podcasting, so I can probably keep doing that.
Oh yeah -- while I've been gone, I started a podcast. w00t.
I'll know more soon. In the meantime, nice to have a place to vent where probably not a lot of co-workers will see it. Well done, Py.

Really ... /that/ little, tho.
A downshift from $14.50 an hour to $9.90 would be ... quite the downshift.
I think I started at the News at $9.85. Ten years ago.
... figure in a 12-year-old car that's going to need replacing sooner rather than later ... ... rent keeps going up ... ... barely getting by as it is ...
Goddamn this paper has got me by the balls. :\
* while, yes, grateful to have a job at all in this economy, wonders in his artless, middlewestern way why his life has got to SUCK so badly *
Haven't said no ... still crunching numbers ... doesn't look good.
Wonderful weekends, all ...

I've thought of turning evil as a money-making strategy. It seems to be working well for everyone with money. ):\

Zero income. Lots of loans -- I look sexier now -- I have a lady friend who is for some reason hornier than me >_> -- I take care of my Grandmother full time -- I have some grey hair which is troubling. --- I still drive my Chevy Impala! --- I enjoy the art of sarcasm and being cruel and evil now a days -- I am an insane VHS horror collector. I will sell my soul and prostitute my body out for a rare one! -- I do youtube channels for my collection now. And that's . . . about it

-- I have some grey hair which is troubling. Oh don't worry, I have friends who started getting greys at 17. Oddly enough they all came from the same high school. XD
It's sad really, we all have facebook but do we actually talk about this stuff with each other or just comment on each others status' and be on our merry? I miss good old forums.
When I'm online, if I'm not on facebook and MSN I'm on iTunes, serebii.net, smogon.com, wikipedia, uncannyx-men.net or mutanthigh; which the population on that forum has decreased and mostly consists of gay X-Men fans. Well it's about half half but it pretty much has turned into a boys club.
When I'm not obsessing over the X-Men, espcially Emma Frost, I'm out with friends or working or volunteering for the Red Cross. I have no clue what I would like to do careerwise and I've been bouncing back and forth between jobs this year after a lovely 2 and a half years of no work.
Oh and since July my glands in my neck have been swollen and haven't really changed. I've just been going back and forth to the doctors. Um... Yay for Ultrasound results this week!
Don't get me started on the love life. Dead and buried is where it belongs...
TJ, you should move to Australian
