Didn't think I'd be starting this one. I'm over the moon with this production. It's incredibly smart and clever and sexy and interesting and yes, I would like to see CSI: Cardiff and watch them calculate the velocity of a kebab.
It's so good to see Jack again, because I thought the last time I saw him was in the year 5 billion. Did some of Rose's mystical communion with the Tardis land him back up in Torchwood in the 21st century?
And how did a secret royal initiative from Victorian times stay so secretive -- especially during the Brigadier years?
Well, however it happened it's an excellent spinoff, a fantastic concept and I'm just thrilled that someone finally let me know it was happening.
I mean, I've heard it mentioned elsewhere, but not as a separate series. I just thought people were talking about WhoS2, in the same way as WhoS1 might have been referred to as "BadWolf." or AngelS4 might have been referred to as "a loose collection of notes flung from Joss' cell in-between his more lucid moments." But I've seen it, and now all is forgiven.
I haven't seen T-S1x02 as yet, but it sounds a little like the concept behind "Lonely Hearts." I hope it's better than that, tho. I was no real fan of the Tamale demon. S1x01 spoilers.

Episode 2 is very similar to Lonely Hearts - episode 3 is much better.

Through some oversight, episode 3 is not yet available. But I'm sure it will be soon.

S1x02 spoilers
Episode Two kicked ass! I was sure Captain Jack would pull a James T. Kirk in on that sitch and he did not disappoint. Is that the same actor? Because he seems like a very different actor sometimes -- although he does seem like exactly the same character. The use of Goldfrapp was perfect, as was the camerawork through it. And I loved the actress who played Carys. She was incredibly beautiful while seeming completely "normal" (not movie-star gorgeous, but a certain ... loveliness to her -- and some nice intensity in her presentation). There was even a little bit of romantic justice in her portrayal -- before the alien just got too hungry for it, that is. I've gotta say I was right there with everyone else in her first, um, encounter. Shagged to death -- and what a way to go! ;D And her girl-on-girl was just ... nice. I thought it blew "Lonely Hearts" out of the water -- sorry Joss. And was a great second installment to this series. I look forward to seeing S1x03, which I dl'd but haven't yet viewed. Again -- thank you for introducing me to this series. It rawks! ;D

I was less than impressed with the first two episodes - but I did like episode 3. I'm glad you like it, though. I'll be sticking with the show, of course - I really, really want to like it. I was thinking - it would be a good idea to modify our previous posts with spoiler code - just in case anyone stops by who hasn't seen it yet and doesn't want to be spoiled. And I think we should use spoiler code where needed from now on. I already modified my earlier post! lol

I'm not sure I agree. If people haven't seen the show they shouldn't stop in.
But I'll modify my posts all the same.

What if they've seen less episodes that you or I, or want to chat about the premise of the show?
I mean - you probably haven't seen episode 4, and I have. See what I mean?

But I'll modify my posts all the same. Well, I saw this thread before you added the spoiler code and I had to rush out since I haven't gotten to see the show yet.
I was so disappointed since I wanted to be able to talk about the show but I couldn't since it wasn't working like the Veronica Mars thread.
Luckily I managed to not really get spoiled.

Hey all, Without posting any spoilers, my analysis of the series up to episode 8 (I'm in the UK ). Torchwood is getting better. I was not impressed to begin with, but it does come together as the season draws on. The stories are much tighter, and the message a lot more clearer. IMO, Torchwood is very dark - they live in a depressing universe. I can't really say much more than that without giving too much away. If you've watched Buffy and Angel then you wont be surprise with much of the storylines except that in Torchwood, the result is much darker, and the ending is hardly ever a win-win situation (with the exception of episode 2, 'Day 1').

Oh. My. God. I just got to watch this last night and I was completely blown away by this eppy. First off, Mary was wonderful. Hot and sexy and forward and a complete trip. Then when they gave the alien reveal ... that was in sane! Tash did so well in this eppy, and in a series where sexual identity lines are blurry, she did an outstanding job of presenting a straight woman exploring a gay relationship, I thought. I thought her reactions to learning about Gwen and Owen were dead-on, and I like how they're writing that -- that they're thrown together in otherworldly situations she can't talk about with her husband, so she's seeking intimacy where she can and she's horrified by her own heart. And it's a shame, too, because she clearly loves Derek or whatever his name is and he's clearly a good guy who loves her deeply, but it was an interesting artistic choice that he never made a single appearance in this eppy, even by cellular phone. Of course, this was one of the first episodes not to focus like a laser on Gwen and what's going on in her life, so that development was wonderfully implicit and organic. "Thank you for that rambling trip to nowhere." < - fun line. Also: "I reset the coordinates for the center of the sun. It shouldn't be too hot, it's nighttime after all." And Mary's identifying with the image of Philoctetes was some really cool writing. Nice ref. Overall, this was an incredibly powerful episode. I thought it was cool that Tash couldn't hear Jack at all. I find it interesting that he'd allow her to destroy the pendant, since one main idea behind Torchwood is the collection and study of alien technology. But having the pendant around presents the same problem as the Gem of Amarra. If you have something around that's that powerful, it shorts a whole bunch of triangles too quickly. And that they executed Mary, but if she hung around she was just going to just keep killing people. And she was a serial killer and one of the things we do to serial killers is to execute them. Too bad he had to lose the transport device in the process -- it seemed like it was pretty powerful. Finally, I really enjoyed Tash talking about her job -- her distress over how every species seems to have weaponry, and her hopefulness in how everyone makes connections with others. Oh, that dimensional rift in Cardiff, and the interesting beings it brings us into contact with. Nicely done, everyone. Nicely, nicely done.
