Wow, was that a good eppy.
I didn't like the phone in the corridor, but I'm fairly certain I wasn't meant to. I liked the weird connection Sam felt to Morgan. And that ending was so weird. Sometimes it seems it's obvious he's in a coma, and sometimes it's just so ... freakishly freaky. I really loved Hunt all the way through. So impossibly cool. His eluding his detectives and contributing to the solving of his own case was just ... that was just neat. ;D Honestly, I just love everyone in this show. I think everyone does such a good job with these characters. Well done.

OK, the final episode has been aired, and here's what happens.... Morgan enlists Sam's help to bring down Hunt and his "corrupt" way of doing business. Sam agrees because he is sure Morgan is actually a representation of the surgeon who is operating on him on 2007. The analogy Sam works with is that "cutting out the cancer that is Gene Hunt" represents removing a tumor from his brain in 2007. However, 1973 Morgan tells Sam that he is delusional, 1973 is the reality, his real name is Sam Williams, and that he only thinks he's Sam Tyler because of the accident on the way to his new undercover job.
During a train heist, Sam wakes up from the coma. Morgan is indeed the surgeon, and Sam is back in 2007. However, he is not happy. At the end, he leaps from a rooftop (to kill himself or cause a coma-inducing injury, I'm not sure) and is back in 1973 at the train heist.
So basically he decided that 1973 was where he wanted to be, even if it is a delusion. And my thoughts on this: To be honest, I was disappointed with the ending. The problem as I see it is that there was far too much "Ooooh! It's a mystery! What can be the truth?!?" buildup over the two seasons.
It's as if they did a double bluff - they make SO many "coma" references in the show that you're sure the truth HAS to be something else - something with more WOW factor - otherwise, where's the mystery? And then it turns out it was a coma after all.
I dunno - maybe I'm overthinking it - expecting too much of the show. I always hoped it wouldn't the "coma" reveal, so my bias is MY problem, not theirs.

I didn't get to have a lunch, so I watched it tonight.
Oh. My. God.
They ramped up the drama all the way through the episode, and just as well as in "Normal Again," which seems like it would be impossible in any show outside the 'verse but this one did it really well. And the code, and the accident and his undercover assignment and his secret identity, and ... How incredibly down the rabbit hole was this? His colleagues feeling betrayed, nicking Hunt for being Hunt, Morgan's perfect weirdness, and ... Gorram satisfying production. Loved it all the way through. Especially the bit where he knew he wasn't alive because he couldn't feel his hand. It's not a completely satisfying ending, but damn I've wanted him to have that kiss since the show started. He's back, he's not ... who cares. Bring on Ashes to Ashes! w00t!
