I hope tonight's game doesn't end in the wee hours of the morning. I knew if I went to bed last night before the game ended I would just wonder how the game was going.
Did anyone see Aly get slimed on "I Love 1981" last night? They were talking about "You Can't do That on Television". I used to love that show.
I used to love that show as well. ;D
I've got some possibly good news. I talked to the lawyer today. He said the JDC are going to reduce the charges to a misdemeanor instead of a felony. They're hoping to strike a plea bargain with some probation but the lawyer says we can win this so he suggests going all the way with it since even if we loose all they'll get is probation.
But if we win it'll be all over for them. ;D
The bad news is the other judge is out of town and won't be back until next Tuesday. The lawyer said he asked to get them the earliest court date possible for a detention hearing so they can get out of there. So it looks like they'll still be at JDC for another week at the very least.
But at least there's a light at the end of the tunnel. ;D

Congrats,ladies!
Cordy,I think y'all might get very little in the way of legal punishment.
First of all, this was handled somewhat inappropriately.
The ptb seem rather embarassed.
The time they've served plus probation, etc. would seem perilously close to overkill when you count the school system consequences that haven't been fully factored in yet.
The problem with all this was the reluctance to send the message that this situation (the reality and the assumption) were no big deal.
It has to seem serious.
But the kids have already got a week of unexcused absences in the works.
They'll have whatever flaying alive the principal has in mind (unless the court forbids it)
The court (if smart) will mandate counselling.
Have they been interviewed by a psychologist/psychiatrist?
Human services/the court/school ought to have examined them days ago to determine what was going on.
(Wouldn't they have liked to know if there were 20 other kids involved in a suicide pact? )
If they did try to play the card that they thought (and still think) that these kids are a real threat, why are they not getting heavy duty scrutiny and therapy?
The school and court haven't done enough if these children are dangerous.
So,I think they'll try for damage control and making the students pay for being thoughtless.
If this is handled responsibly, that can be done without it expanding out of proportion.

According to this, Sci-fi Fans have voted for the top 10 best Space sci-fi. And we have a good news and a bad news.
Bad News: Serenity got to no. 2 on that list. Not bad for a movie considered to be a "flop" by some.
And the good news?

So far the school hasn't recommended that they seek counseling of any sort. Nor do I think they've received any sort of counseling while incarcerated without a trial.
The JDC doesn't believe the boys belong in there which is why they are willing to lower the charges. It was the school - particularly the Assistant Principle - that decided they should be arrested.
They never did evacuate the school though, which shows they never took the threat seriously. They even indicated that they pretty much knew the kids weren't seriously threatening anyone but they were being charged as if they had.
My son told me that the first thing the Assistant Principle said to him when he was called into the office was, "You're in trouble for a Felony." Not, what does "Tomorrow is the day" mean or anything even remotely level headed.
He was slamming his fists down on the desk and yelling at my son, and apparently the other kid too. It seems he is known for this type of behavior and someone who has a habit of overreacting to childish behavior should not be in charge of children.
I'm glad the Juvenile Officers can see that these kids are not a threat, but that doesn't help my son and the other kids at that school when dealing with an Assistant Principle who's prone to overreacting like this.
What they did was stupid, but it was in no way threatening and any reasonable adult would know that after spending even 5 minutes with these boys.
The Assistant Principle pretty much told me that he knew they did not plan on carrying out a bomb threat, he said that they had to be punished because of the zero tolerance policy.
Punished I can see, arrested I can't. What they did was stupid in light of the way the world is today but kids don't look at the world the same way we do. They never meant it to be threatening at all.
It's a question on intent. They never intending to do harm, nor did they intend to imply harm. The grownups were the ones who viewed it as harmful.
This will damage these boys for the rest of their lives. They were imprisoned without a trial, and mostly because they were honest enough to say they made the notes and put the on the floor in the halls.
I always told my son that he would be in less trouble if he told the truth. Well he told the truth and he got arrested.
What do you think that's going to do to him? He's going to have a very hard time trusting authority figures, possibly for the rest of his life.
Does that seem right to you?

I have lots of books. I like to read. ;D
Well, I'm off to bed guys. Have to be at work early in the a.m. again. Goodnight everyone.

No, it doesn't. But then again, it's not about what's right, it's about who you get to intimidate.
The asst. principal sounds like an ass. He probably sees this fiasco as his chance for his 15 minutes of fame.

Sweet dreams Cordy.
he'll judge authority figures by what the sane ones o. will they ignore the wrondoing or treat the kids fairly?
they can't get away with ignoring the 'bomb threat' that prompted the felony
AND have no evacuation and no counselling.
what they have then is an attempt to use the law to punish an offense that could be dealt with in house.
a la 'i'm going to make that po-leece man arrest you for not cleaning up your room"
that in itself is a criminal offense some places.
wait till they arrest someone for assault over a spitball or name calling.
