My first attempt at a blog, please be kind. I don't keep a journal or anything and this is the only place where only I have access to it.

Today at lunch I was trying to decide if I could live off of chili-cheese Fritos and sour apple Jolly Ranchers. What a weird combo but oh so tasty. Then I thought I would never let my kids eat this crap. I really should heed the "do as I say not as I do." I could probably lose a few pounds.

Aly,a good friend (and the certified nutrition expert for the hospital) told me you can eat pert near anything so long as you incorporate it into a healthy regimen. Sure,you need to avoid things your allergic to and such but if you eat healthy carbs,proteins and fats,get the vitamins,fiber,trace nutrients and all that good stuff in,you won't have time,room or money for too much damaging stuff. A little indulgence keeps you content and in balance. If you never budget your diet for anything fun,cut your calories too low (1400 for a 5'3",130 lb. adult female) or concentrate too much on one class of foods, your metabolism gets too low,you're prone to deficiencies and you get so bored and resentful that you can't enjoy what you do eat for having cravings for what you've left out. Everything in moderation-including temperance. Chili Frito pies,Jolly Ranchers,etc. can co-exist with diets made to fight cancer,Altzheimer's, rheumatism,heart disease,etc. etc. This means real portions of the real thing on a regular basis-not a thimbleful every time it snows at the equator. Remember,it's considered healthier to include good stuff like healthy food and regular,sensible exercise than to exclude favorite foods and exert yourself beyond your limits. You're not only supposed to do what you can live with,you're supposed to choose a lifestyle that makes you WANT to live with it for all the years it's adding to your life. Good luck to you and your family as you try the best of both worlds.

for the song!!! You are one strong,savvy,sane lady. I've no doubt that you will snatch the right choices for your life no matter how hidden or locked away they may be at times. Never assume you're not 'supposed' to be happy. The joy and purpose are out there with your name on them.
