So should I take a mental health day tomorrow? Shawn is working 10 hour days so his work week ends today. This would probably be the last day where I could play "sick" before Madison starts school again.
Speaking of school. She goes back on September 1. A Friday. Why in the world go back for one stinking day? Yeah, yeah I know all the state requirement crap but come on, ONE DAY??

I don't remember ever having fewer than two days at the start.
That's like dipping your toe in the lake to see if you want to swim. One day of school and then three days to consider whether it's for you.
I'd take a mental health day. It feels like a nice day to reconnect a bit before everyone's schedules are so hectic you basically pencil in plans to get together sometime around graduation..

Yeah -- life is short, call in "well".
You know instead of sick, you call in well.
*Heheheeeeee*

I've done that, starting a term on a Friday. I've also started a term, followed by a month-long holiday the week after. Of course, the education system here is bonkers, so I don't think you can go by us.

I think they save the weekend days for 'orientation',tests, teacher days and other non-standatd stuff. It gets those out of the way, edges kids back into school mode and counts toward the gubmint required days. (Sort of like 'reverse snow days) It some climates,it also serves as "We do,too, need new air conditioning" days. Hereabouts,we have a couple of weeks of school in August, then we're off for the Celebration, then we resume on Tuesday after Labor Day. Going to school during the horse show would make about as much sense as having classes during Mardi Gras in New Orleans. (Just a few too many distractions) Homeschooling has become very popular here and year-round school is treated like a plague. Parents seem to either want to take full responsibility for their kids' education with a lot of custom-made,independent,self-directed study or they want Junior to be babysat 50 hours a week for nine months with a solid three month break . (Although summer programs don't hurt.) The idea of having the children off two weeks after every six week term or whatever gives them fits when it comes to daycare. I guess folks could adapt to anything. (Hmmmm....I hear boarding school starting at 24 months and going on through university is popular...)
