GOOD MOOOOOOOOOOORNING, WEBIVERSE!
Today is off to a glorious start. I've got local copy for my health page even tho my health writer is off having a child. I've had a good long walk and life is wonderful.
Yesterday was a damn' good day, too, and I'll tell you why. Nothing exploded. Everything went perfectly well. I got all my copy read and pages built for today's paper and got all my copy read into next week. The only thing I have to do today is build pages. Right now I have eight hours to build seven pages which is this glorious luxury of free time to make them look nice.
Reason I was able to get everything read was I was sort of stuck here 'til 6 or so last night -- auditions for the fall show started at 6. No one showed up because it wasn't in the paper, but I did make it over there to visit with the director some. And it's in the paper twice today so maybe someone will see it.
We've got another set of auditions Monday just in case. I won't be able to make that set, but I'm sure it'll all go beautifully. My hands were completely off this past weekend's production of "Run For Your Wife" and it went wonderfully.
I actually got excited about a story for the first time in weeks yesterday. I saw a notice that there's a new French club starting on Wednesday and I made the assignment. We won't be able to run the story 'til the first week of October, but this is the first club that's started since we established our "Society" section (which covers clubs and organizations) and I thought being able to break a story about a new club would just be cool.
OK, no, it's not on the same level as breaking a sex scandal involving Condi and the Canadian prime minister, but it made me happy.
Also, while reading copy and running the clock out to head over to auditions (which I did because I said I'd be board liaison for this show, not because I'm trying out -- I don't want to be in a show right now, thanks) my outdoors writer at the next station over was interviewing a 14-year-old who'd shot a bear on a bear hunt in Sconi. He was conducting the most exuberant interview. As he asked his questions I could just hear how the story was forming in his head. He conducted an excellent interview and then called the boy's uncle and continued the followup. I've got an amazing story coming on that one. It's just a joy to witness someone doing really outstanding work.
And I had my annual review yesterday, and my boss was very happy with me, which is always nice to hear. The raise is more of a pittance, but they are putting all new windows in the place and I've gotta say, it's a great improvement. A little more takehome would be nice, yeah, but I kind of get that capital improvements are important, too, and it really does make for a better, more pleasant work environment.
So, yesterday I woke up with plenty of time to take a walk, but I had zero energy for it. Like none. I looked at my sweats sitting there and I just could not make myself pull them on. So last night I bought some B vitamins and took one, and this a.m. I took a much longer walk than usual.
I'm bursting with energy. Today is going to be one kick ass helluva day and this weekend is going to be magnificent -- even if I am going to miss part of the 'thon (there's a thing at the college I want to see, and it's only running the one night).
Hope everyone else's weekends are off to most excellent starts! ;D
