Oh man am I in a bad way.
Last night I walked four miles. The weather was good but the sidewalks sucked. This town needs to enforce its sidewalk clearage. I was slipping all over the place like a Jerry Lewis sketch.
I basically set out with the idea of returning the Audiobooks I listened to on my way home and back, and I think if I'd just done that I'd be fine. That would've been a three-mile walk. I threw on an additional mile -- really, just to do it.
It was late -- after midnight when I got home -- and I was tired. I should've stayed home. I should've curled up in bed and slept for 10 hours. But I didn't. Idiot me, I went for a walk.
And today I am exhausted. I really do not know what's in my B-complex vitamin anymore. I think it might be sand. It's certainly not releasing any energy. As it is, I'm very tired and on top of everything else I seem to have picked up a cold.
Upside: I've walked 10 miles this week. If I don't stir from my couch for the rest of the week I've still met my goal. I think that's maybe why I walked the extra last night, but it's not a good excuse. There's three more days in this week. I could easily have walked one mile (or better yet, stayed home) and got my walk in some other time.
And it was beautiful. We had a fresh snowfall -- just enough to provide an even sparkly coverage over everything. Added to a low cloud cover which reflected a diffuse haunting glow absolutely everywhere, the night was an excellent night to be out walking -- I mean honestly, the temperatures were perfect and almost no wind -- which is maybe another reason why I decided to just go for it.
Oh, a third reason -- my mom and dad got me some new sweats. They were nice, but they didn't fit, so I returned them for a slinkier pair of shiny new red-stripe black adidas sweats, which were a little long for me but which otherwise fit perfectly. I hemmed the legs and I guess I was keen to break them in. The hem -- a not especially well-accomplished baste stitch I'm looking forward to reinforcing at some point -- held up throughout the walk and the sweats felt wonderful -- such a change from the ratty old workout gear which has been wearing out and which I've basically been putting up with for the past few months.
So this a.m. I'm a little out of it. But some caffeine and two ibuprofen later I'm feeling a bit better. And a commitment to getting plenty of sleep tonight (after chugging down a lot of orange juice and an L-Lysine for the cold) should get tomorrow off to a much better start.
Just -- honestly, what was I thinking?
Hope everyone else's day is off to a better start.
