I love reruns, and here's why.
I can get ever so much more done.
Last night, ABC ran a rerun of "Ugly Betty" across from an NBC encore of "Earl."
Now, I'd gotten home from work around 5:30 and had felt kind of bad because I wanted to take a long walk but I also didn't want to miss anything. So when 7 p.m. rolled around and all the teevee was old, I was just a little bit ticked.
But what I did do was my dishes.
I can't usually do dishes during the week because my sink is facing one way and my teevee is the other way. So, because I'm a media consuming fool, dishes have a lower priority. After all, I've seen all of them before. ;D
But what I'd done when I got home was get everything organized so that I could do dishes one of these days. With all the reruns, "one of these days" was in fact last night. And it didn't take forever, which was also nice, although I missed the first run (for me) of an episode of "The Office." No biggie.
I plunked down and watched a rerun of "Scrubs," which amazed me, because I didn't think I'd actually seen enough "Scrubs" in my life to have seen one before, but I guess I have. That led to a lovely episode of "30 Rock," which I'd not seen before and which was pretty funny.
I did still want to walk, however, so I ignored the episode of "Grey's" I'd taped while all this comedy was happening and headed out. The night was high and clear with the half moon a sharp, bright hemicircle that always looks somehow artificial to me. Temps were quite pleasant both with and against the light breeze that was going. Orion was right in front of me the whole way as I walked to my landlord's and paid my rent. I then walked to the post office downtown and dropped some bills in the mail.
By this time, my bad foot was aching a little and my sock had bunched up in my other shoe, promising to raise one heck of a blister, but I kept going.
I ... hadn't actually eaten anything more substantial than a bowl of cereal all day and my stomach was just gnawing at me. Also, I could really use a nice sitdown break as I'd been walking for two hours. It was late, tho -- after 11 by this time -- and not much was open so on my way home, I stopped by Papa John's and ordered supper.
This may have been a mistake. They'd deliver in a half-hour to 45 minutes, and I was a half-hour out from home. So I stepped up the last leg of my walk (no small feat given me barkin' dogs) and got home in plenty of time to actually be a little impatient by the time the food arrived.
I munched a few breadsticks and a couple slices -- I wasn't nearly as hungry as I thought I was -- and took in a beautiful episode of "Grey's." A nice end to a long day.
This a.m., my blister fears were allayed -- my feet are fine. Even my -- I'm officially calling it a sprain, now -- from Monday is just a very dull ache.
Not bad for what I confirmed this a.m. was a six mile hike.
So ... heading into the weekend, I've very comfortably cleared my goal of 10 miles for the week with fully two more days to walk around some more (although the reports tell me it's supposed to get cold again. Ick). I've only got four pages to build for today on a very rested four hours of sleep. Seriously, I woke up this a.m. at 6 and just wanted to get my day started.
And thanks to the reruns, I've got a clean kitchen and, as it turns out, pizza for a couple more meals in the fridge.
Life could be so much worse.
