Both of those sound good.
Maybe you should try for a position at a college town.
You could write for the school organ or local paper
or write for the paper and take classes and cover college events.
Either way,you could have a small community (the school) within
or near a larger city with more amenities.
I'd think Oxford would be as happy to welcome you as Old Miss
and that would go for any other town and any other atheletic haven.
You shouldn't feel you are 'settling' whatever you wind up doing.
Any choice you make will be a stepping stone toward your dreams if
you follow your heart.
You'll only become frustrated if you assume that you can't have what
you really deserve.
You have it in you to offer the place you land a great sportswriter,
a keen academic mind who can make history come alive and a darn
nice person to be around.
You're a Renaissance man and whichever role you sell your next employer
on,he'll be getting the rest of your gifts in the bargain.
Since you'll be offering them extras, look for a position that feeds your soul
on more than one level.
The more you get,the more you'll have to give.
Sure,it's o.k. to start small and work towards something bigger.
It's o.k.,too,to see if you can't have it all and take posession of it one nibble at a time.
Look for areas that have the environment you want.
I
KNOW there will be opportunities in all those places for someone with
your abilities to meet a discerning person's critical need.
Go for it and recognize this hiatus as the beginning of your next triumph.
