My name is Karen -- err -- umm no, that's not it -- Dez -- hmm - it's, oh -- I think I am addicted to posting on online internet forums when: 1) It's been 5 minutes and 1 hour since my last post... no, 6 minutes 2) I start to answer the phone as "Good morning, my name is "Dez". 3) I usually have 3-4 windows open at one time while posting. 4) ... Which results in posting the wrong answer to the wrong thread. 5) I start dressing like my Avi. 6) I consider renaming my son "Joss". 7) My dreams consist of dancing yellow smilie faces. 8) I can really smell brownies when Auntie signs on. 9) The highlight of my day is when someone changes their signature. 10) Trizz starts to make sense in real life. 11) I start answering threads to tv shows I've never saw. .  |

Well, like I said over at the 'Fraud, Auntie's been working on a patch for this place, and apart from the painfully slow connection speeds, I think she's really onto something with that Juicy Fruit/pedometer thing.
Other failed attempts involved a sort of Etch-a-Sketch type thing we could carry around with us. Despite the convenience, we ultimately had to scrap it. For one thing, logging in was complicated, to say the least. At the dial tone -- yes, honestly, dial tone -- we had to put a goldfish in a shoe and throw the shoe out the window. And once we'd gone to all of that bother, we couldn't see any avatars, there were no banners, everything came through in allcap TXTSPK, we only got three colors from munching the brownies and the closest we could manage to cod-German was cod-Swedish, which was just not nearly as funny.
Then there was this little windup Tomagotchi number that you'd strap to your wrist and it would peep at you. The only one who got that to work was Bango. And we all tried the conversion to Zen Buddhism at one point or another, and last fall there was that disastrous experiment involving a kite and a dachshund (which -- fair warning -- we can't mention in Py's presence).
In the end, we've rationalized that our addiction to each other isn't really damaging so we mostly just keep coming back.

I'm addicted to ciggies and to this place, and mostly am not seeking to be helped with either.

I knew I was in trouble that time years ago when I was asked for my address and I gave them "cawomack@bedrock.net". "No,we mean where you LIVE." "Ohhhh!!! #cherokee_dreamcatchers on Dalnet." I've gone from extraterrestrial taverns with baby rabbits on trikes to lounges staffed with zombies singing Cole Porter. If all addictions healed,enlightened,strengthened and comforted,I don't think we'd have much call for narcs or nalaxone. (Especially if they were free.) |

Well I must not be too much of an addict because I dont seem to have problems ignoring you all in the evenings or turning this off nearly every night.
I just got a ton of work done and looking really good for sleeping in a bit tomorrow. // Back up // I got a ton of work done and never felt I needed to pop in here during that.
When I consider why I can shut down at night and not feel I have to creep in here and attach myself like one of those sluggy looking algae cleaning sea-life forms that suck the junk out of the side of a fish tank, I think it comes down to, I have my kids home at night. And maybe I'm just lonely during the day -- while I'm waiting for my painfully slow customers to supply me with information so I can get their dang projects finished -- stupid southerners (no offense Q).
I think during the day, especially when my team is not on together IMing a project detail, and I dont have meetings. The days when I'm alone with the dog. I'm forced to sit at the computer and wait on people. I cant really leave some days, and I think my oh-so-creative and unraveling mind has entirely too much alone time to think about my life, to daydream about nearly anything else. Because I'm just that bored. I think a highly imaginative mind with too much boxed in boring time is a very scary scenario about to unfold.
But this wise person once wrote me, "In my world, shoulders are for leaning on to ease our burden and leaning in to double our strength. I've tried to have one ready in either case." And overall, like TJ said, we're all meaning well and we all really care about each other when it's all said and done, at the end of the day -- (or post).
Thanks guys. I've never done so much sole searching in my entire life, as I have done coming here. I am defiantly a better person for knowing all of you. I think it also forced me to become a better writer too. So I'm not feeling so addicted anymore. I think the patch worked.
