Yeah, I said it. They're f**kers. No other way to get around it.
I know it's typical to complain about the previous generation and their respectful attitudes. But seriously, I don't think my generation, while having traits, was as bad this generation.
Today, I was subbing, and in one of the classes, the teacher was assigned a test for the students to do. The class had a review Friday to go over the test, and the teacher decided to throw the students a bone and have review as the test. That means, if they did the review properly on Friday and over the weekend, they'd get a good grade. One student complained and said something along the lines of "We did this. Why do we have to this again?" I explained to the student, that it is the test, and the person should do it. The student said "I'm not doing it because he already has my test since it's the same thing as the review." The student was becoming increasingly disrespectful towards me. I calmly explained that it is what it is, and the student still refused to do the test. After a few minutes of silence, the student said that it was stupid and said they wouldn't do the test. Her tone was getting more disrespectful and disrupting the class, and I decided it was enough, and told her go to the office.
But that is one of the many instances of rudeness and insubordination that I've seen and experienced by teenagers today. I don't think even most of the troublemakers when I went to school with would pull that s**t with subs.
Maybe I'm just looking at my generation at rose-colored glasses, but if I pulled that s**t to a teacher in high school, I would have been locked in my room for two months. Only leaving for class and possible job. I also tend to remember the bad students more than the good ones because the bad one give you a hard time. I do think a cause of the lack of respect teenagers show is a result of a lot of parents giving their kids every thing and not disciplined. I know of a lot who do discipline their kids and make them earn what they have, but it's tilting more and more the other way every year.
