Not a big Dr. Who fan then, Mr. Nasty?
But what about Billie Piper? EVen the eye candy doesn't redeem things for you?

Why did they make the Doctor into a complete numpty? He doesn't know what the heck he's doing half the time. Chris Eccleston doesn't seem very comfortable playing him, Piper's not much of an actress, the special effects and storylines are whack, it's not at all scary and only occasionally funny.
Sorry to sound so negative but the whole thing pales into insignificance next to JW's work. Maybe I'm just a bit hard to please but if it's not brilliant, it's not worth bothering about, IMO.

See, the ironic thing to me about you saying that is that the way they seem to have planned the season is so COMPLETELY influenced by Joss. The stories are really intricately structured to form a larger arc in a way that completely fascinates me. For example, I'm totally on the edge of my seat to see what the whole 'Bad Wolf' thing is all about. And I think Ecclestone's performance is part of that. I think they deliberatly numptified him in service to the larger arc, because there have been definite moments where we've seen through the cracks of that. I'm thinking first and foremeost of the absolutely touching moment between him and Jube the Tree-woman in the second episode. And there've been a bunch more where that one came from I get the distinct impression that his goofy demeanor comes off as forced because it's supposed to come off as forced. Because of something underlying that we justy don't know about yet. Or perhaps I'm just a sad old apologist who's just tickled pink that the show's on again.

I'm thinking first and foremeost of the absolutely touching moment between him and Jube the Tree-woman in the second episode. I didn't find it that touching. Sure, he cried but....so? Not enough backstory to really have much of an emotional connection with that numpty.
That bit at the end, too, where she went on fire and died. Was that supposed to be touching too, 'cause I thought it was kinda funny?

I don't know... there was something I just really really liked about the tree-woman. It wasn't so much Chris' performance as hers that made that moment for me. I'm afraid I have no real defense for the farting aliens a bit later on, other than the fact that it didn't bother me in any significant way

Question:
Will I enjoy the new Dr. Who if I've never seen the original? I'm really tempted to give it a go.

In answer to your question, Nick- YEs Yes Yes. This is a fantastic point to jump in. They've done a great job of making it accessible to new viewers who aren't familiar with the 'classic' Who. Actually, you may enjoy it even more, not being burdoned with 27 years of back story and continuity to wade through. A lot of the references to the good Dr.'s past and such are meant to be 'mysterious backstory', but they've had to delicately sandwich 'mysterious backstory' between the end of the old series and the beginning of this one, which makes it not so much 'mysterious backstory' as 'Lost Weekend' You wouldn't be burdoned with all that and can just enjoy the thing for what it is. Much like not having to spend the first season of Buffy wondering why she's gone from being a Senior to being a Sophmore because you haven't seen the Kristi Swanson movie.

Everybody we met in the last episode gets exterminated-and so does Jack. The Doctor attempts to take out the Dalek fleet using a Delta wave-but can't do it, as it will destroy the Earth as well...but Rose, linked to the time vortex via the Heart Of The Tardis, does it instead without destroying Earth. Jack is also brought back to life. However, the link to the vortex is killing her, so the Doctor takes it into his own body via mouth-to-mouth(Sort of a kiss, but not quite). However, this ends up "killing" him.
The message "Bad Wolf" is sent throughout time by Rose herself, to remind herself never to forget the Doctor. So Rose technically is Bad Wolf. The Emperor Dalek shows up. It's quite a different design than the Evil and Rememberance Models-it's basically a big Dalek head with armor-plated legs and a visible mutant in the center. It looks like of like the "Crab Droids" from REVENGE OF THE SITH. It is attended to by Daleks with black domes ala EVIL OF THE DALEKS. Basically, like the DALEK in DALEK, it survived, heavily damaged. It's been using Human raw material to rebuild the Daleks ever since. The Emperor is partly insane, and makes himself out to be a god among Daleks. The Doctor points out that technically the Daleks are now half-human, to which the Emperor responds "blasphemy!"-a little in-joke relating to the TVM.
Rose and the TARDIS-is sent back to Earth-out of harm's way and she tells her mother about the events in FATHER'S DAY. She then gets Mickey and Jackie to help her with The TARDIS-in particular, open up the console so she can get to the heart of the TARDIS and get back to the Game station.
The Dalek line "My vision is impaired, I cannot see!" makes a reappearence here.
As for the regeneration? Chris's last line is "Fantastic!" Tennant's first line is "Hello!Hmm...new teeth. Now where were we? Oh yes, Barcelona!"
