My birthday actually started on Saturday. I got my apartment cleaned up and went for a five-mile walk and got some laundry done. My folks got to town around 2 p.m. and we ate out a few times, took in a fantastic show at the college, and took in services this a.m.
P.S.: My pastor didn't remember rescheduling to this week -- weird, since I was with him on the phone when we did, but oh well.
My folks and I met with my uncle from a branch of the family I've chosen to regard as a cautionary tale and then had breakfunch at my sister's. She made us an eggbake, bacon, sausage and triberry muffins, and I met her new bf, who seems like a nice guy. We had homemade carrot cake which was insanely good.
Over the course of the day I managed to walk 2.5 miles, and was part of a fantastic rehearsal which my parents were able to enjoy before hitting the road. For my birthday, my folks got me a set of bedsheets and some cash, which will come in handy for getting over to see the grails get married this summer. That and their coming out to visit me and my sister was just really cool.
Also, I found out that we're finally getting a Barnes&Noble here, and I'm wondering if they need a manager. Or even a stockboy (although the manager thing feels like it would be more my speed). I'm thinking of tossing a resume in their direction. I think it's something I'd be really good at, there'd be lots of opportunities for advancement if I was right, and I could maybe even keep doing my column.
I'm thinking it was a wonderful birthday. I'm thinking 37 isn't awful -- it sort of tastes like nickels. In spite of Friday being kind of a pain in the ass at work (I had to build my Wellness page twice because my editor thought I'd made a poor news judgment with the piece my reporter had turned in, although in retrospect, I should've fought him a little harder) it's not a bad place to work taken all in all.
Things are, for the most part, good.
