Hm. I guess it's just a personal preference as to how you like to look things up. Personally I like the way it's laid out on the first version better.
Like I said, Probably just a question of how you like to access things.
A few general comments on that thought.-
It would be great if we got in the habit of citing which translation we're currently working off of when discussing the scripture, as the variations in translation make a world of difference. Unless we all want to just pick a translation to use as standard right off the bat. I seem to remember that Bango doesn't care for the NIV (correct me if I'm wrong on that one, Bango- I thought I remembered you saying once that you had issues with that translation)

And now I think of it- Perhaps it would be best if we all kind of laid our cards on the table before we begin so everybody's clear where everybody else is coming from
As I suspect everyone on the planet knows by this point - I'm an athiest, raised Lutheran. I have read the bible before in its entirety, although it's been quite some time. I also took a King James Bible as literature class back in my undergraduate days ('93, I think it was) which mostly focused on the OT.
SO, that's the perspective I'm coming from.

I grew up Catholic, but I don't belong to any organized religion now.
It's fair to say I believe in a larger force at work in the universe, but I couldn't really give it a name.

It's fair to say I believe in a larger force at work in the universe ... Agreed. But this thread makes me nervous. I shall lurk here.

Attended Congregational, baptized and confirmed American Lutheran Church, devout United Methodist, which itself covers a lot of ground theologically. And inclusivist, professing a belief that G-d speaks to G-d's children through a broad range of religious expression and, personally, a proponent of greater understanding between the major wisdom traditions throughout the globe.

I was raised in a non-denominational Church while growing up. I say raised but actually my Mom just sent us to Church on the Church bus. She didn't go with us.
When we moved out to the middle of nowhere when I was 15 we went to a Baptist Church - this time with my Mom - and I was baptized when I was 17.
I was a member of that Church but I was never a blind follower. There were times when I had to hold my tongue during sermons. There was one about the dangers of music and television that really had me angry at the time. I'm against censorship of any sort.
When I moved out of the house I started going to a non-denominational Church here in town. It was a small Church but I really enjoyed the preaching style of our pastor. Non of that "going to hell" stuff.
Also, he's a huge SciFi fan which made him more accessible. I even saw him and his wife at the first showing of "Serenity" here in town.
However, I haven't been to Church since 1998. I'm not an early riser and I just haven't been able to drag myself out of bed to go. I felt really guilty about that for a long time and then I got over it.
I had a World Religion class last year and I had the highest grade in my class. It was a fun class.
I'm interested in all religions now though I tend to be more Christian in thought. I just don't agree with all the guilt and prejudice that comes with Christianity as a whole.
So right now I'm in search mode for something that suits me.

I seem to remember that Bango doesn't care for the NIV (correct me if I'm wrong on that one, Bango- I thought I remembered you saying once that you had issues with that translation) That's true... __________ Me, you all basically know where I stand. I'm a non-denominational Christian, now... And, just to get it all out,I want to join the discussing-- I'll just attend the first part of the discussion,(the "it's God's word, not man's" part). Just try not to tear apart the Word when you do the second part. No jokes, please,(I think that's why the debate got too heated before).

We can try to not joke but it's a little hard. It's what we do. It's part of our charm.
Just keep in mind that we don't mean any harm by it and love us anyway.
It'll be so nice if we can do this without it getting ugly in here.

I'm really devoted to keeping this non-evil and ugly.
My whole goal is that those of us with differing points of view learn a little bit more about where the other points of view are coming from.
That said-
Bango, obviously I wouldn't insist you take part in any discussion you don't want to, and I understand that the 'Bible as direct word of God' part of the discussion is where your interests lie. I get that.
It's just hard to ask other people to try and put themselves in your perspective and understand why you believe what you believe when you're not willing to give them the same courtesy, you know what I mean?
But that's neither here nor there, obviously, just my thought on the issue. I'm happy to have you and anyone else join in for as much of the discussion as they'd like to.

I probably shall lurk here, and when it looks like it will be getting a little testy, I will make a post making fun of Tome Cruise and Scientologists.
I don't know where my religious beliefs lie. I thought I considered myself a Diest, but when I read some of their material about Christianity, I really got put off by that.

Agreed. But this thread makes me nervous. I shall lurk here. Why does it make you nervous?...I tend to think the ones on TvTome were much more scarier. Only 2 of you here know about my relationship with God. I am too close to this subject, and so I am leery about posting my views and having them possibly torn down. So, I would rather lurk and keep my beliefs in tact and to myself without the potential scrutiny and judgment's cast that what I say is truthful on what I have experienced and believe. Fair enough? Lets just leave it at that.
