Hey guys, I have a Scriptwritng course this year, and my year end project is write a 30 minute script, it could be a whole sitcom episode, the first half of a tv drama, or the first 30 minutes of a feature film.
What mine will be on, is a the first half of a tv drama.
I will tell you more about it as time goes on.

For the first part of the project is writing a proposal for a show, which was due Thursday.
My show was a hour long drama, which centers around the life a dorky, golfer, named Kenny, and how he deals with his perpetual love interenst Sara, best friends Ronald, and his parents and sister. The shows tone will be lighthearted.

Lighthearted dramas can be mistaken for comedies too easily. The show I wrote about my sister, loosely based on my sister, um, that would vaguely remind people who knew both of us of my sister, for instance, struck the one board member who read it as a comedy. Throwing it out there in case it ends up not being a drama -- although any show centering around a dorky golf player named Kevin is just zooming down the road to Comedyville anyway -- just sayin'.

I kinda like the whole concept, but the word 'dorky' is just totally taking the whole drama part from my mind.

Maybe dorky isnt the best word for it, what would we be a good replacement.
Silly?
I was going with a Willow type dorky, but maybe a nerd could be better.

[glow=orange,2,300]Hey, guys, you all mentioned that you were worried about writing you stuff here because you were afraid of it being stolen...well, why don't you put ' © ' on what you don't want stolen, making it yours.
Like, for my Deadly Desires story I putted, © 2004, The Buffyverse Lives On! and I tagged on my site name because the video is there, and the story will later.
Maybe put that sign on the ones you don't want taken elsewhere just type the symbol '&' and write 'copy' next to it.[/glow]

Intellectual property in shockingly difficult to copyright, actually.
Well, technically it's fairly easy to copyright I suppose. You fill in the little form and send in your twenty five bucks (or perhaps its thirty five, I forget)
Putting the little 'c' in a circle will assert your right to claim the work as your own, but is fiendishly difficult to enforce in any way, and in any case the only type of copyright breach that it's even possible to pursue is outright plagerism (and even that can take just effing forever to get through the legal system.) Theft to concept, idea, or format is basically a lost cause as far as trying to prevent because it all gets terribly terribly nebulous.
Theft of image or video is again an entirely different animal, and a bit outside my realm I'm afraid, but from what I've heard also a bit of a pain to pursue.

Crazygolfa I was thinking about doing a scriptwriting course this winter with the Open University, so I'd be really interested in whether you find yours useful. A friend and I started to formulate a one-off TV play a couple of years ago, but never got to working on the actual script - but we did the scenarios, characters, scenes, sounds, etc. I remember from a book on screenwriting (by Blacker) is - keep it cheap to make if you hope to sell it (and not dependent on the weather!) - I mention that just because.. Not so long ago - and I'm serious - I met an intelligent (by other standards) guy who was half way through writing a script which he wanted to submit for screen about a war in space. I don't even think Spielberg could pull that one off easy.
