I just finished watching "Troy" and I highly recommend it if you're into Greek mythology.
We did "The Iliad" when I was 15 and I very much enjoyed the story.
I actually have the book, but I haven't read it in years so I'm not too clear on how faithful the movie was to the book.
The movie was very enjoyable and had parts that gave me a few allergy attacks.
Brad Pitt, Eric Bana, Orlando Bloom, and Sean Bean (see something for PY) each turned in very fine performances (and looked pretty damn fine in their nearly nude scenes too). ;D

Very good movie indeed, I went to see it when it came out in theatres and annoyed my fiance by telling him exactly what would happen next, incidentally his name is Troy....
But it isn't as true to the book as it could've been. There were rumors that a sequel would be done following the Odyssey.

Now that would be awesome. I remember "The Odyssey" a little better than "The Iliad" and I really love that story.
Still don't remember it as well as I should, well it has been 15 years or so since I last read the book so I guess I do remember it fairly well considering.
I need to read them both again, but that'll have to wait until after graduation.
I was hoping to work a mythology class into my schedule this semester just for fun, but there were none that would fit.
I miss studying mythology, I very much enjoyed it in high school.

Those sound like some seriously fun classes. You'll have to let us know what you are learning.
I really wish I could've fit a couple of classes like that into my schedule.
The best I could do was take and online World Religion class this semester. Online classes always fit into your schedule.

I'm sorry, did someone mention Bean doing nearly nude scenes?
I thought I felt my radar go off...

Actually, I don't thing Bean was nearly nude in the movie. He was just in the movie.
It was Orlando Bloom and Brad Pitt who were nearly nude. And looking damn good I might add.

Let me know it it's any good. I've been meaning to see that one.
I also want to see "The Village" but I've heard it's not any good.

As usual, Harold and Kumar was a movie that was raved about and I didn't get the hype. I wasn't expecting it to be such a teen gross out flick. I actually didn't know much about it going in, so that's my fault I guess. I wouldn't recommend watching it if you're the least bit hungry. I don't care for White Castle, but the movie made me want to find one. I wouldn't be surprised if White Castle financed part of the movie. It wasn't that bad, just a bit typical.

House Of Flying Daggers - 6/10
I might have overscored it a bit since Ziyi Zhang is my favourite actress. It took about an hour before it got interesting but by the end I was wanting it to continue.
Really beautifully shot.

I did finally see The Full Monty. I am going out to buy this one on DVD. I enjoyed it very much.

Movies, my fav topic.
Troy - kinda cool. But so many major battle type movies out there I kinda got bored. There were also some controversy about the actual storyline involving Troy and so called cousin.
King Arthur - This is actually a good movie. The lack of blood takes away from the realism but it is a family movie. Could have been done much much better to rival other historical storylines and huge battles.
The Incredibles - Fun movie. Not brilliant and not much depth. Nothing we haven't seen before and done better in actual comic heroes storylines, but fun nevertheless.
The Village - I like this. The suspense is very good and you have no idea what is actually going on until half way through the movie when you have some idea.
Ladder 49 - Recently good movie. Really good drama. I don't usually go for this type of movie but they really draw you in and allows you to feel what it's like to be a fireman. Has meaning and recommended.
Some comments on these Chinese movies - ie Hero, House of Flying Daggers etc. The Chinese really hate these movies yet the westerners eat them up. Nothing haven't been done before, and the only thing going for them is that they are pretty. I find this contrast between taste and culture to be very interesting.

rented Shark Tale. cute. Robert DeNiro voices a shark in it and it has some funny parts.
