We've got a thread on books and TV shows, might as well have one on movies. I also figured that this group might have some good movie suggestions.
Did anyone see Saved? Bango, I'm not sure you would like it. It is a little tongue in cheek about religion. I thought it was pretty good. It could have been funnier, but not bad overall.

I just saw Saved this weekend as well.
It was pretty funny. Not the funniest movie I've ever seen, but still worth watching.
I'm with Auntie though, I'm not sure Bango would like it - though I do think he could learn from it.
Particularly during the exorcism scene. "It's not a weapon you idiot." Yup, he could definitely learn from that. ;D

[glow=orange,2,300]Yeah...sure...first, let me say I'm pretty normal, I watch almost anything...
No, I haven't seen Saved, Merely because I thought it was a stupid movie idea.
This year I really haven't seen much movies.
I saw The Passion of the Christ which I think was the best movie ever made! I loved the scores.
During the summer I saw Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban, which was what I considered the best out of the recent movies from that series, and think it did the book justice. Loved the visuals.
Saw Spiderman 2, and thought it was alright. Could've been better.
And saw The Forgotten, and completely think it sucks!
Now, waiting on The Grudge.[/glow]

I have yet to see the passion...although from what I've been told, I won't like it. One of my friends who's Christian thought it lost the message in all of the blood and gore, which is not something I can stand to watch (I'm a wuss, sue me).
Saved! sounded funny, though. I must rent it. And I HAVE to see Team America some time soon.

I watched The Passion last month because I heard it was supposed to be super gory, it wasn't. On top of that the movie relied too much on you having read the book, which I haven't. So I had no idea who all the people were supposed to be minus Jesus, Judas, Virgin Mary, Joseph, and the Devil. It was just a weird movie. It started out like this preachy documentary and then turned into this disturbing S&M or something. The whipping guy liked his job a little too much. For somebody who did as many cool things as Jesus did the people who made this movie chose a very poor time of his life to put into film. It is just a movie of Jesus being whipped! The savior of the human race being whipped for 2 hours! I've been meaning to write a review of it for my website but with the redesign and my sleeping I really haven't found the time to do that.

I thought "Team America" missed the mark. The critics all seem to love it, so maybe it's just me. It did have some really funny moments, just not the greatest overall.

The savior of the human race being whipped for 2 hours! [glow=orange,2,300]That really wasn't the point. The point they tried to make was the final 12 hours of his life. I loved the fact that the movie wasn't like the others before it. You know, there's countless Jesus Christ movies out there showing his virgin birth, his childhood, and his great works. They always focus on that and give very little detail on the final hours, so Mel Gibson did great with it. The main purpose of all the beatings was to show how much pain and toture he went through just to redeem all of us, all of our sins...and yeah, they do beat him that bad as they did in the movie. What you saw, was actually what they did to him. In most movies of Jesus you never see them beating him as graphic and painful as they did in this movie, and that's like not giving the whole truth, because they did all of that stuff, and did it that horribly. To the beaters, Jesus was just another "criminal", they never held back. And this whole thing about gorey scenes...uh, lets see, if you were whipped with sharp broken glass and other sharp things combined all in a whip, and were beaten, and had big thorns driven into your skull...you'd expect a lot of blood and cuts too! Not to mention lots and lots of pain.[/glow]

It was still just the guy from The Count of Monte Cristo getting whipped for 2 hours. Don't call a movie The Passion of the Christ and then just have it be about Jesus's death, if you want that movie it should be called The Death of Jesus. If you want people to see the brutality of his murder go right ahead, but they could have at least taken out the first 20 minutes where it was just everyone asking Jesus if he was a king over and over again then. I think the movie would have been much more effective if it actually showed why we're supposed to be so sympathetic for Jesus. They also needed to stop trying to be artistic with scene cuts. Every one was just zooming in on Jesus's face. If this movie had been about anyone besides Jesus no one would get it. It'd just be some guy getting tortured to death for a reason that is vaguely mentioned.

[glow=orange,2,300]That post reminds me of lasst month when I went to the dentist and read a magazine article-like note to Gibson about making changes...the writer kept saying, 'Why don't you..." in almost every line.
Teal, the reason they kept asking him if he was Jesus was because that's what they really did. If they were going to make a movie based on the last 12 hours of his life, well, sure they'll add in every detail, even the conversations that happened.
As for 'The Passion' being the title...Jesus' death was the passion. It wasn't about them killing him, it was about the things he went throug because he loved his children,(refering as God the Son), and that love was why he went through all that pain. Plus naming it "The Death of Jesus" wouldn't quite fit since at the end he rose up from the dead.[/glow]

[glow=orange,2,300]As for good movie suggestions... I suggest everyone to rent 'Shrek 2' if not buy it. A very funny movie with a very talented cast of animated characters. Plus, who can not find Pus 'n' Boots funny? Princess Fiona:[/b] Shrek? *camera pans over Donkey as White Horse and shoots up to Puss'n'Boots licking himself* *Puss'n'Boots turns around* Puss 'n' Boots:[/b] For you baby, I could be. [/glow]

Shrek 2 is definitely worth the rent. It starts a little slower than the first one, but once Puss in Boots shows up, it really takes off. They missed an opportunity with the voices of John Cleese and Julie Andrews. They just seemed like filler. A shame really.
I haven't seen The Passion, nor will I. It will go along with Titanic as movies I will go to my grave without seeing.

I haven't seen the Shrek Movies either. I'm not sure why, they look pretty entertaining.
One of these days I might get around to watching them.

I'm not sure about Aunt Arlene's objection to Titanic, but my issue is everybody and their freakin' brother went on and on about that movie.
I tend to shy away from things that the masses like. I prefer to be an individual and not follow the crowd.

[glow=Orange,2,300] ... What's wrong with Titanic?[/glow] Well, number 1, I sorta know how it ends- THE BIG SHIP SINKS!. Umm, number 2, Leonardo de Crapio.
