I still haven't finished The Vampire Lestat (I told you I have no dedication, it has been over a year). I'm collecting up a stack of Vampire Chronicles books that I intend to read someday. Also, my friend Steve (check the member photos section, he's the tall and skinny guy with no shirt) gave me The Mummy or Ramses the Damned as a late Christmas present because he knows I like Anne Rice. I'm reading The Man Who Hated Sherlock Holmes: A Life of Sir Arthur Conan Doyle for English.

The Mummy is a pretty good book, and not terribly long. I think you'll enjoy it.
I've read all the Vampire Chronicles. The Vampire Lestat and Tale of The Body Thief are my favorties (I also have the graphic novel version of those books).
I've read those several times. A good book is like a Buffy/Angel/Firefly episode. You can't read it just once.

I just read the Da Vinci Code and Angels and Demons, both excellent books. Cordy, is the Dark Tower part of a series or a stand alone book, I hear good things.

It's part of a series, and a very good read.
I've read the earlier books in the series several times, and I'll probably go back through the whole series again this summer.
Really stinks that I've been so busy lately, I haven't had time to finish reading "The Dark Tower" yet.
I've only got 100 or so pages to go so I should be able to finish it before the semester starts, as long as I can find some time.

Well I just finished reading "The Dark Tower" and I have to say I absolutely loved it. ;D
There was another death I could have done without, everytime I turned around Stephen King had my allergies acting up while I read this book.
But the ending more than made up for all the death.
I ended the best way possible. I don't want to elaborate for fear of spoiling it for anyone.
You guys really should start reading these books. They are some damn fine storytelling.

Hey Cordy, if it's not too much could you post books in that series, in the order I should read them?

Hey Cordy, if it's not too much could you post books in that series, in the order I should read them?
Not a problem at all. ;D
The Dark Tower I: The Gunslinger The Dark Tower II: The Drawing of the Three The Dark Tower III: The Waste Lands The Dark Tower IV: Wizard and Glass The Dark Tower V: Wolves of the Calla The Dark Tower VI: Song of Susannah The Dark Tower VII: The Dark Tower
The Gunslinger starts out slower than the rest, I enjoyed it but some people have trouble getting past the first book.
Several of Stephen King's other books are related to The Dark Tower including:
'Salem's Lot The Stand The Talisman (written with Peter Straub) It The Eyes of the Dragon Insomnia Rose Madder Desperation Bag of Bones Black House (also written with Peter Straub - sequel to The Talisman) From a Buick 8 The Regulators
And several short stories from these collections: Skeleton Crew Hearts in Atlantis Everything's Eventual
Now I don't believe you need to read all of those stories to enjoy "The Dark Tower Series" but they can enhance your enjoyment if you have the time.
The more important stories are probably "'Salem's Lot", "The Stand", "The Eyes of the Dragon", "The Talisman", and "Black House".
You can go to Stephen Kings Official Website for more info if you're particularly interested.
These books are an excellent read and I highly recommend them.

Thanks Cordy, I've read "It" and "Hearts in Atlantis" from that list and that's about it. But those should keep me occupied until next Christmas or so...

You're welcome. Yeah that list will keep you busy for quite a long time.
But it's so worth the read.
We should do a book club over the summer where we can all read the same book and discuss. That would be fun.
I say the summer because school's starting up again, I won't have time to read anything for fun until the semester is over. I tend to get too wrapped up in a good book.

The Man Who Hated Sherlock Holmes: A Life of Sir Arthur Conan Doyle was due back before I finished it so now I'm reading Ben Holladay, The Stagecoach King for English. It's interesting since the Ben Hollady in question is my great-great-great uncle, so when they talk about his ancestors I'm actually learning some family history.

Haven't read any good books in a while, but the last one I read was pretty good. It was Coraline, by Neil Gaiman, and it has this really spooky atmosphere throughout. Good book all around, although a bit short.

Just finished reading The Killer Angels by Michael Shaara, and lemme tell you guys. It is a fine book. It is based off of the battle of Gettyburg, it is fiction, but the author blends fact and fiction in this book exquisitly. The dialog in the book is the author's estimation of what the people would have said in those situations.

I am not reading a novel or anything like that at the moment. More like the bible. Starting with the Gospel of John.

I'm reading Bag of Bones, by Stephen King and Fade by Robert Cormier. I haven't read Cormier since I was in high school, I really enjoy his work.
Oh and I just read America the Book by Jon Stewart, absolutely loved it, that man is a genius.

I grew up reading Stephen King. He has some good times and some bad times. For some reason, I never read got started on 'The Dark Tower', but seeing such tremedous things about it, I might just try again. If you've read 'It' you should read 'Insomnia'. Different books but they both take place in the same place. 'Insomnia' takes place after 'It'. Both excellent. The Talisman is another excellent book. Slightly related to the 'Dark Tower' actually since Stephen King likes to keep his books related. The 'Dark House' (takes place after The Talisman but only slightly related) in my opinion not worth reading though. I heard Angel and Demons to be much better than Da Vinci Code so I will start that soon. I also want to thank the person that introduce me to 'Set the House In Order' which is about multiple personalities. Was it grailwolf? I hope he (or she) reads this thread. It is thoroughly enjoying.
