That was a great find q'cat. ;D A very interesting read, even at 2:00 a.m.
Okay, my week keeps getting worse and worse. This morning I was in the shower, getting ready for work, when I heard a loud banging noise. I wondered what Enzo was up to so I shut off the water.
My son informs me that the Police are here and want to talk to me. I think, "Well, they're probably checking on him to make sure he's following the house arrest guidelines." It did say they could do that.
So, I hurry up and get dressed and then I go to the dining room. The Police hand me an arrest warrant for my son.
I asked them why the Judge issued an arrest warrant. He hasn't done anything to break the house arrest.
They told me it's because formal charges have been brought against him. I told them the Juvenile Officer didn't even mention the possibility that this could happen.
One of the cops says he works at the school and he was surprised by it as well.
They told me that since he's charged with a felony he can be considered a run risk so the judge ordered his arrest. They also said he had to stay there until the trial.
Now by this time my son and I are really freaking out. I asked them if there was anyway to stop this. They said no, they're just doing their job.
So they took my son away in handcuffs yet again. This is the second time this week I've had to watch my son be led away in handcuffs.
So now I'm panicking and I have to go to work in less than an hour. I tried to call the Public Defenders office and see if they were taking his case but the Lawyers weren't in yet again. I told the lady I would be at work and to please call me there.
So I went into work a complete basket case. Everyone was so nice though. They even put me in the back so I wouldn't have to deal with people. They also let me off early today. I was supposed to get off at 8:00 p.m. but I got off at 4:00 p.m.
When I got home I saw the JDC had called so I called back. The guy told me that my son has a detention hearing on Monday to determine whether he gets to come home until the trial, or if he has to stay at the JDC until then.
Then he told me I could visit my son since I hadn't had my initial visit yet.
I had to talk to him through the glass, just like you see on television. Only without the phones.
He's locked in a room all day with absolutely nothing to do. He can't talk to anyone. He can't draw or anything.
They have puzzles and books but you have to be there for 48 hours before you get to use those things.
And, he only gets one visit per week. That's total. He doesn't get one visit per person wanting to see him.
So, his Grandparents, Dad, and my sisters can't see him. They all asked if they could visit him. I don't get to see him again until Sunday, and then only for 30 minutes - and they can cut that short if there are too many parents visiting other kids at the time.
There are only 3 windows.
He only gets one phone call per week and it's only for 5 minutes.
He is so depressed right now. He kept saying he wasn't sure how he was going to make it through the entire weekend.
And what's bad is they may not let him out on Monday. The judge could decide he needs to stay there.
I don't know why she would, but then I don't know why they had to arrest him again when he was already on house arrest.
This is like a nightmare that I can't wake up from. I don't even see how they can say the have a case.
Sure "tomorrow is the day" could be taken badly, but it doesn't have to be.
I found out that last week a girl from the high school got arrested. She was passing notes on the bus and she mentioned a Cherry Bomb. Apparently it's a game but they charged her with a felony bomb threat anyway. That should have stopped the second they checked that story out.
This has gone seriously crazy. They are ruining the lives of children just because they want to make examples out of them.
A felony charge will follow them around for the rest of their lives. Plus, they can be tried as adults and sent to adult jail for this.
This should have never gone past a lecture and a suspension.
I really hope I get to take him home on Monday but I'm afraid to get my hopes up. Everytime I think it can't get any worse it does.
I'm sorry to keep ranting. I know this is probably depressing the hell out of everyone right now. I just need to vent, and I really think the school needs to be stopped before they ruin anymore lives.

My heart goes out to Enzo and yourself, Cordy. Words cannot express how much of an outrage this is. People's lives are being ruined because SOME F**CKING PARANOID, IDIOTIC ARSEHOLES DON'T HAVE AN OUNCE OF COMMON SENSE IN THEIR TINY, ADDLED BRAINS.
As you said, a cursory examination of the incident would show that it's just some kids doing what kids do. It doesn't take a genius to figure out that there was, and is, NO threat whatsoever because of the kid's actions.
Even the cops seem embarrased to be involved in this, which shows how WRONG the overly draconian reaction by the school/authorities is.
I sincerely hope the end result works out OK for Enzo, yourself and the other kids - no one deserves this ammount of crap dumped on them. It's totally unjustified, no matter what the F**CKING NAZIS IN CHARGE say. The smug little b*stards probably think they'd averted disaster, when all they've done is crap on people. They have no idea what they're doing.
Many for Enzo and yourself, Cordy - I hope you get a chance to sue the b*stards for messing your lives up this way.

That's terrific,Nick!
Cordy,it's apparent there's a negative climate going on that has the suits seeing danger everywhere.
Incidents that would be meaningless alone take on new import when viewed together.
Again, they need to reach out to the students and other folk to stress how we need to work together for safety and sanity and not pull 'jokes' that would alarm people or overreact to innocuous acts or remarks.
(The ACLU recently exonerated a grade school girl whose 'weapon' was a Tweety Bird' key chain.)
Enzo may get to stay at home with an ankle alarm or some such safeguard.
There needs to be a meeting about all these incidents since they have a cumulative effect.
I'd definitely give the ACLU a holler.
They've been there, done that and can advise you and your attorney as to proper procedure.
Cordy, this has to be pure hell for both of you and I can imagine what'll happen after the media gets hold of this.
You need to remain the wise, cool head in this (especially if the school can't.)
I want to stress again that acting as if this is a problem we all need to address seriously, intelligently and compassionately is the only way to go.
Belligerance and anxiety will only make things worse for everyone.
They need to know that you are there for your son and his rights but whether that leads to an adversarial stance in regard to them or an alliance toward the best thing for the children and the community is entirely up to them.
YOU'RE going to be a grown-up.
You and Enzo will stay in my prayers and I don't think it'll hurt that the cops don't seem to see Enzo as a dangerous character.
I think the order of the day is "better safe than sorry."
Right now,the authorities have a fine line to walk between giving real deranged folk the idea that things will all be blown off and being so alarmist that they lose credibility.
Either extreme sets the stage for a genuine attack.
They should concentrate on prevention via discussion of terrorism, inappropriate 'humor' and how to spot/deal with perilous levels of psychological distress rather than jump on every hint of impending violence.
Remember that these kids will not get off lightly.
The degree in which it can be demonstrated that they knew how their words might be construed will affect how punitive the response would be.
This isn't a case where a boy writes "I'll give (the girl he's been going steady with for 3 years) a ring tomorro." and the next day is Feb 13.
They suspect him of wanting to be a terrorist-not a husband.
But either way,he's in trouble if he's not aware of the subtext his remarks have according to the context of time, place and emotions.
Good Luck and don't lose hope!

Thanks for the kind words everyone. I'm trying to remain adult like in all this. I don't want to ruin things for Enzo by doing the same things they are.
He did get to call me today for a couple of minutes. He says he does get to get a different book to read today. They have the new Harry Potter book there, which he hasn't read yet, so he's hoping to get that one.
If he does that will last him for a little while. He did sound a little better on the phone when I told him that everyone is behind him in this.
Yesterday he asked me if he was still going to be grounded when he went home. I told him no, that I think he's been punished more than enough for what he did.
They should have realized their note could have been taken like this so he did need a lecture and to get some form of punishment to drive the point home, but not this much punishment.
I'll have to check into the ACLU thing tomorrow. I have to go to work soon and I'm not off until Midnight.
I just hope this nightmare if over soon.
I did get a little spot of news to brighten my day. A poster on The Official Browncoats Site was giving away and extra t-shirt and poster she got and I get the poster. ;D She was happy to know it made my day better.

Cordy I am so sorry that this is happening to you. I wish I could give you some legal advice on this one but I don't even see a case here. Plus I'm not sure what your local laws are.
But I do know that these idiots could be ruining people's futures forever, it's ridiculous.

I have to agree with Wes on this one, adding Y's to the end of people's name is unseemly.

So Kevy is unseemly? What a concept.
And Cordy, if I were you, I'd actually call the local media because the public needs to know what injustice Enzo is suffering. A local media outlet might look at your case and decide that the public might need to know. It gets your side of the story out. Although, the local PTB may not look to kindly on that, and ratchet up the punishment, if they are vengeful, and made to look like, as ITL put it, NAZI's. The PTB in your area are going way overboard in this case. Enzo made a mistake, and as many people said "Tomorrow is the Day" can mean many things.
As qc has stated, the ACLU may actually look at this case because your son's Civil Liberties have definitely been trampled upon.
