How can you not love comic books? I love getting engrossed in a whole new world, with different sets of rules. My brother was a huuuuge collector, so he raised me on them. Now, I'm a huge Spider-Man (movie and comics) and Batman (not so much the movies) fan. Not in the same way I'm an Angel and Lindsey fan though. Unless...

I don't particularly love comic books, but that's probably just because there's no place to buy them around here. But I am definitely one of the weirdo-s in the comic book store.
I did like the Spiderman movies though. And I wanted to read Fray, but the only place I can get it from is Amazon, and they don't have it in stock right now.
Besides, what's good on television nowadays? Charmed? Pah.

If Charisma's on Charmed, I will certainly watch it.
Again, I *must* recommend the Long Hallowe'en...great introductory Batman story. Basically, there's a series of murders on each of the holidays, and Batman and the police force are trying to figure out who's behind everything. We get introductions to great characters like Harvey Dent (the district attorney, who gets involved with the case), Selina Kyle (the REAL Catwoman, not the fake Halle Berry one), and loads of other fun heros and villains. Lots of the stuff leads back to this maffia-style crime family, and of course, if you know anything about the Batman universe, things go horribly, horribly wrong for Dent.
Pick it up!

Anyone reading Marvel's Ultimate Universe at the moment? Just finished up the Ultimate Carnage storyline- I can't believe they killed of Gwen Stacy! (sniffle) Why does every character I love have to die meaninglessly? And hoy, that thing was just dripping with clonage allusions...smoke stack death, disfigured Peter Parker, trademarked killing sprees...
Oh, and I simply MUST plug the Gotham Girls web series. All of the episodes can be found here. Fun site for fans of the coolest characters in Gotham City. And if anyone's ever up for a game of Poison Ivy edition Othello, I'll be happy to join you.

Re: Harley and Ivy?
Here's a little Harley and Ivy history 101.
Harlene Quinzel was a psychologist who thought she could get inside the Joker's head. Somehow, she managed to fall for him, and staged a prison break-out. She took on the guise Harley Quinn, and switched her repressed, reserved demeanor for a playful giddiness that was the perfect foil for broody-bats. Naturally, the Joker was abusive, although she still kept crawling back to him. However, after one particularly stupid move on her part (misplacing the Bang! gun and a mini), he dumped her, supposedly for good.
Desperate to prove herself, Harley decided to rob a local museum- which also happened to be the target of the eco-terrorist Pamela Lillian Isely, aka Poison Ivy. Harley, with her limited mental capacity, set off every alarm in the place, foiling the plant-lady's plan. However, they realized that by teaming up, they had a chance of beating Batman for good.
The Joker started to miss having Harl around, so he came for her, and she naturally waltzed right back into his arms. However, Harley and Ivy became friends (and cell mates) at Arkham Asylum, where they later worked together. Eventually, Harl left the Joker and moved in with Ivy, proclaiming herself her side-kick.
Their relationship was later revealed to be romantic. In both characters' final appearances in Animated continuity, the Joker proposed to the incarcerated Harley, who, in her typical fashion, ditched Ivy in an instant. However, the plant lady soon realized that he was after her inheritance, and went to stop the ceremony. Ultimately, the wedding was ruined by her plants, and Harley proclaimed the Quinn/Ivy partnership over, making it her mission to destroy Poison Ivy. Little did she know that a dose of makeshift weed-killer from Batgirl in the ensuing fight mortally wounded Ivy- who turned out to be a clone of the original Dr. Isely, who was re-formed and happily married.
Now, a new animated continuity has begun, and it seems unlikely that either Harley or Ivy will appear. Pity.

That's cool! I used to be a somewhat Batman fan...only for the cartoons that the WB had a few decades ago,(the '80 cartoons and so on). Not much of a comic book person. Found out I have a comic book store in my area...went out to a place called "Shells" and noticed a comic book shop next door. Anyway, loved the Batman series that was in cartoon...which is probably the same that I_W is talking about since he mentioned a jester-like woman...It was dark, had cool color backgrounds, story was the best for a cartoon show. Speaking of Batman, I use to have this action figure when I was about 5, it was Batman. Man I loved that thing. One day my neighbor stole it, and when I found out, he gave it back to me with Batman's cape missing and his feet had been painted with nail polish. I was soooo angry! I beat that kid up right on scene...and he was twice my size and age, mind you! Shoved his face into the ground, made him eat dirt. Kept shoving his face in the ground! I loved that toy so much and he stole it, and ruined it, so I had to make him pay! If it wasn't for my dad coming home from work and honking the horn for us to stop, I don't know what else I would've done...man, did I have a mean streak when I was five or what?

everyone has a mean streak, when i was 12 i kicked the crap out of 5 kids the same age as me at the same time. this guy was trying to pick a fight with one of my friends and they started fighting and i tried to stop it because no one else would, he hit me and i went crazy and then after that he never picked a fight with any of my friends again or me. so far everyone in my year level at my high school has heard about it. they also have this unwritten policey of dont make jesse mad or he is going to kick the crap out of me thing. so far they have only seen me pissed off.
i used to watch x-men evolution, it was a good show but the stupid WB canceled that too. i heard it was doing really well.
ah....... the memories.

Thanks for sharing the disturbing stories. I thought the Harley/Ivy relationship was handled very nicely...although the introduction of the character into the real Batman universe didn't go over so well with me... Too bad that animated universe is gone now...we'll never get to see Ivy and Harl make up : ( If you're an animated fan, once again, I recommend you check out the above site. Quite funny.

I can't believe they killed of Gwen Stacy! Was that a joke? I mean, come on, it is Gwen Stacy. Dying is her thing.

Well, in the original series, Gwen was killed because she was just a 'bleh' generic 80's girlfriend, and she didn't have enough storylines to continue on. In the Ultimate series, though, Gwen was energetic, charismatic, and something of a punk- and she's a whole lot cooler than the bland Ultimate MJ I've been putting up with (I find her to be the weak point of the comics). And, Gwen 1.0 had an emotional death at the hands of the Green Goblin, whereas here- CARNAGE? I mean, I like the character (I'm not one of those 'stupid lousy Venom ripoff' peops), but why does he deserve to kill Gwen? Also, she was just being developed as a character, so it seemed...unneccesary, and unfaithful to the book's roots. I thought Hobgoblin would kill 'er as soon as he showed up.
