Could we rent gear? Like ren faire pavilions,RV's or something? I don't want so much 'roughing it' that no one goes. Maybe stay at a Farmington hotel or b&b and commute to St. Louis for the big stuff....

I actually don't mind some roughing. I used to go camping way back when.

I think the train does stop in Madison, but Py and The Feller should absolutely be getting on when it makes its morning stop in Minneapolis.
That is, if Amtrak's still running.
'Course, they've been saying that the service is closing for years, now, so it may still be going ...

If my parents let us use the house in the country you won't need camping gear. It's a three story house with two bathrooms. Sure some of us would have to sleep on the floor but it would be inside.
The outside stuff would just be for fun. Don't you remember me showing you the house when we went to Johnson Shut-Ins tj?
My sisters use the house every year when there friends come in for their annual float trip so they should let me use the house too. I just have to not mention that I met all of you guys online. My Dad is hugely on the paranoid side.
I know I'm within driving distance for q'cat, Dez, Auntie, and Spk1903 for sure. Assuming you guys don't have cars with an oil leak like mine.
There is also several motels near my house in Farmington if we don't want to stay out in the sticks. Then we could drive to either St. Louis or out to the more scenic sites depending on what we wanted to do that day.
There's lots of things to see all around here. There's winery tours in Ste. Genevieve Missouri - about 30 minutes from my house as well as some gorgeous older houses that have tours. I've never been to these but I hear they're fun. I know several people who are always going to the winery on the weekend.
There's a golf course here for Kev. There's the Zoo, Science Center, Art Museum, City Museum (possibly the most fun place ever), and the Magic House in St. Louis. tj hasn't seen any of those yet.
Right now the Science Center has a Titanic exhibit going one. Christy was telling me about it. You get a name when you go in - of a person who was really on the ship. You get to tour the ship and at the end you find out if you lived or died.
She lived, but I think her daughter - or maybe she had a son? - died. She doesn't have kids in real life but her person did.
I don't know if it will still be here then but that would be a fun thing to do together.
We can go city or country and have so much fun either way. Or we could do both. Have a lazy country day and a whirlwind city tour.

i got directions from my hometown to St Louis and its only a 4 hour drive. even better is that i don't have to go anywhere near Chicago! unless its to pick up Auntie and then I would be more than happy to brave the traffic

I do remember the house, but it was part of a lot of geography I'm unfamiliar with, so I'm still unaware of relative wheres. ;D

About one or two miles away from Johnson Shut-Ins. We used to walk to the shut-ins from my parents house in the Fall. Way too hot to do that in the summer.
A very great place to play Ghost in the Graveyard and I can scare everyone with some nice ghost stories.

That is so very cool. We're so close together. ;D
I think Auntie actually lives outside the city itself so it shouldn't be too bad to go get her. You guys would have a fun road trip.

I'm in the Western suburbs so you could easily avoid the city.
A road trip would be cool. I love to drive, but I don't entirely trust my car for a long trip.

That's my deal too. I need new brakes and I have an oil leak somewhere. Not a bad oil leak but one all the same. These things would need to be fixed before trying any sort of road trip.

How old is your car? I started getting the extended mileage oil when I get it changed. It works wonders for leaking oil in my car.
Last time I forgot and they used the regular stuff. I started seeing little spots of oil under my car.
I'm sure it won't fix a regular oil leak though.

My car is a 2000 Neon. I guess I could try the extended mileage oil, even though it costs a bit more than regular oil.
I was told by a mechanic that the extended mileage oil really doesn't do much good.
