A few of us have been testing out Skype. It's software that lets you call people over the net. You can download it here.
We've been trying out the conference call part of the program. So far it seems pretty clear. The biggest flaw we found is it only lets you have 5 people on a call at a time. I'd love to have everyone on at once, but they don't allow that with the free program.
It might be possible if you pay to have more people on at once, but we haven't fully investigated that yet.
Cordy said that using Skype for a regular call seemed to work well also.
I'm listed as AuntArlene. Of course.

I'm: kjahnkempf
.
And I cannot find where adding more people is a flat fee. I might send Skype an email or call when I find time today.
But I did say before we could try to do a rotation between 2 groups, if we have a ton of people. That could work.

Skype is so way fun ... I cant wait for all of you to try it!!!
.
Last night, we had so much fun talking about Tome, stuff I didn't know. Allot of verse questions, inside jokes I never got the reference too before.
But we got a huge giggle out of Tj doing Broodybutt. EVERYONE said you were a blast Tj! Really good at responding in the "Ask BB" thread and slipping into that role.
Then we got thinking, how something like that might be cool to try again at Fraud with all the new people. We would really want to give an explanation about it -- would want people to know it's a roll/play after all. But it might help spread the fun to other people, I think set Fraud on fire. It would be original to most people. Tj needs to revive The 'butt!
Anyhow getting back to Skype, this is just the kinda stuff we have been nattering about ... it's a whole new level of fun!
Oh and there is licking .. lotsa licking.

Oh and there is licking .. lotsa licking. And if that's not enough incentive for everyone to get off their lazy bums and download the free software and buy a mic then I don't know what is.

I mispelled my name when I was setting up. There was already a tjaman somewhere so I quickly typed in tjamanaic, with the a and the i screwed up. My bad.
I'm not personally sold on it. There are moments of static, everyone gets kicked off every so often, you can barely hear Kev, and at the end of a four-hour convo I had a splitting headache (tho I can't swear that it wasn't the topic). And at the beginning, very briefly, I was having trouble telling the difference between Cordy and Auntie, but that's probably because I hadn't really gotten used to Auntie's voice. I'm sure after a short while I'd know exactly who was talking and when. Fun to hear your voice, Auntie, and you again, Cordy
Certainly for the 'Thon I'd want something we could post afterwards. I didn't see anything to save the conversation, especially if we get kicked off and have to relink, and we've been having reasonably good luck with the Y!Mess. My vote would be to stay with it for the 'Thon, at least.
But yeah, it was ... good. And, as dez pointed out, free, which is a good price for VoIP.
