I've seen all the Chucky movies so I pretty much know what I'm getting into.
I wasn't even scared by the first one. I always considered them more comedy than horror.
They're always great for a laugh just not really worth running out to the theater to see.

Anybody seen The Grudge yet? Looks kinda creepy, and I'm pulling for Sarah to make a good movie (finally). Should I see it in the next couple of days, or wait for the dvd? [glow=teal,2,300]I saw it, and I t5hink you should wait for it to be released on DVD. It's a great movie, has its meaning, its message. Not giving away too much, I'd say it's about a rage of a Japanese man whose wife secretly has a crush on this American, so he goes into this rage and murders his family....which creates this grudge that relives the murder over and over, and those who come in contact become a part of it, therefore that's why it goes after them too. I thought it was very spooky at times, as well as humrous, and *if* you pay close attention to the story, then you'll easily become part of it. Sarah did a wonderful performance. I don't understand why Feigy didn't think SMG did. Also don't understand why Feigy didn't like the movie...I really think that by this movie, SMG can show people in Hollywood that she can act, and give an outstanding performance, and not be reminded of as the girl from the "crappy" Scooby-Doo movies, but be reminded as the actress who went out of her way to promote the film, and in return the result came out surprising everyone with a huge amount of money and beating Shark Tales from the top spot and beating Ray,and Saw on their first weekend and staying the number 1 movie for atleast two weeks. The only reason I say wait till it's out on DVD is because of the audiences. They were a pain in the butt! If they weren't calling SMG Buffy, they were laughing at someone else screaming...those interupptions would take you out of the movie, and you'd lose your appeal over it. That's why, wait till it's on DVD. That way you can enjoy it without being distracted by other people's stupidity.[/glow]

Anyone else seen Seed of Chucky yet? [glow=orange,2,300]I saw the previews, and knew that it would be a waste of money to even consider checking out. The last one I watched was Bride of Chucky. My friend wanted me to watch it with her and I did, and knowing the whole history of the "possessed" doll, I thought even that movie ruined the franchise. Having him team up with his later-to-be wife....not such a good grouping...and since that movie suck, I knew then that the new one would suck too. Especially since they started with the comedy...NO! Chucky was never funny! Why make him funny now?! Just yesterday my friend went alone and watched it and came back dissappointed in it. She really thinks they butchered it this time. Based on what she told me, I wouldn't send people out to see this movie. I mean, I honestly became sick at the part where she told me the stupid doll masterbates in the movie....Chucky....masterbating...that's so not him! Looking back at the first 3 movies of the franchise, and then looking at the last two sequels...they should've left him chopped up in the big fan at the end of the 3rd movie and not butcher the movie franchise with making the last two sorry sequels.[/glow]

Bride of Chucky's the only worthwhile entry in that entire franchise. (Although I haven't seen seed yet) It exemplifies a long standing theory I've got about horror genre film recognizing it's own innate stupidity. For a broader look at this I suggest watching the evil dead trilogy- A real classic and very dear to my heart Evil Dead I - No really, look how scary we are... Evil Dead II - Really. We're scary. OK, We're kind of silly... but look, still SOOOO scary. Army of Darkness - Oh hell with it. We're just enjoying ourselves for what we are now

Just curious, has anyone seen Wes Craven's New Nightmare? Your last post made me think of that one, Py/b], because it's got an interesting way of examining the phenomena of horror films becoming sillier and sillier as the series goes on.
Personally, I don't feel that horror films are innately stupid. Alas, all too many of them are.

The Evil Dead trilogy kicks @ss!
I have all those movies, they're great.
I've also seen Wes Craven's A New Nightmare, it's pretty good.
I think it's pretty cool how the horror genre can have a sense of humor about itself.

I adore Wes Craven's New Nightmare. A well scripted and intelligent discussion of the ramifications of 'protecting' our children from dangerous knowledge and concepts And I didn't mean innately in the negative way that it sounded. I'm a complete sucker for slasher film. I actually did a pretty in depth study of it at one point, and still occasionally run workshops on using the genre in improv structures. I also do a mean workshop on sci-fi as a genre as well

Also don't understand why Feigy didn't like the movie...I really think that by this movie, SMG can show people in Hollywood that she can act, and give an outstanding performance Strangely enough I agree with Feigy. SMG did a very very good performance - but it's nothing we haven't seen from her before. She still seemed very Buffy to me. I like her performance in 'Cruel Intentions' better. SMG, as well as Jason Behr, can do outstanding 'tears in the eyes' but not going to cry out scenes. Finally, Hollywood knows how to make a horror movie where it isn't about blood and gore!!! Even if it is a remake of the Japanese counterpart. I grew up on horror films so it wasn't anything special for me, but it still creeped me out near the beginning until I got bored of being scared. It also has one of those annoying 'it doesn't end properly endings'. Oh well, it is worth watching if you like proper horror movies, and much better than 'The Ring', yet it still lacks something - mmmhh maybe a plot might help.

it still lacks something - mmmhh maybe a plot might help. Okay....um where were you when they told the plot? The detective told Karen that when someone goes into a rage, it creates a grudge, a curse which manifests itself into the tragedy....which would be the murder of the wife and the son and the suicide of the father...that created a spirit that relived that same moment everytime, and those who get in the way, they become a part of it, therefore it goes after them...I thought the detective said that really clear for people to understand...

See, that would actually be the premise, not the plot. The plot is the sequence of events of what actually happens over the course of the movie. You know, getting characters from point A to point B. Or beyond.

I couldn't stand Wes Craven's New Nightmare. Sure, it pointed out in itself that it was a stupid movie, but it didn't have any humor to it. It just said it was a stupid movie and then was a stupid movie. A Nightmare on Elm Street 3: Dream Warriors and Freddy Vs. Jason are my favorite movies from the Freddy series.

Okay....um where were you when they told the plot? hehe, yeah much like what Py said. Nothing much happened in the movie except the death. In a way it was a creepier mature version of say Final Destination. It's wierd because the movie kind of goes backwards - it tells you why it happens, and current events, but there aren't any conclusion (obvisously for the sequel). It all feels like a prologue of the actual story. Again, maybe it's just me.

Saw ELF last night. In my opinion pretty good. Kind of predictable. I was a little scared that they were gonna let the cat out of the bag because my daughter was watching it with us. Normally I am not a Christmas lover but for some reason this year I am jumping right in.
