And now that Py has responded ...
I also affirm Reb for reaching out. It's a dark soul indeed who gets his butt into a life raft and doesn't care enough to reach out to folks who might be drowning.
My take on this is pretty well stated elsewhere, so no need to rehash it here.
I just wanted to say your heart's in the right place, tho I'd personally go less with the calling for physical violence and hellfire and more with the positive changes in my life.

Feigy,a conservative believer would say your Dad was a perfect example of how 'religion' doesn't make a difference in a person's life but a living faith does.
i guess that's true of any ideology.
head knowledge doesn't accomplish much.
you have to use your beliefs to make constructive changes in your life before the ideas have any significance.
that's why you can't just 'inherit' your beliefs or acquiesce to them.
you have to care about them enough to apply them to your life.
until you can make that level of committment, you can hit every note but it's noise and no music.

Well, personally, I don't concern myself with his faith because like most everything else, we don't agree on it. Normally that would be fine. But our relationship is far too fragile for me to go ruining it by rubbing it in his face that I'm "going to hell".
So, it's just easier to nod and smile, much like I would to a patient who was highly volitile and could lash out at any moment lol. But seriously, he's one of those people that needs God, if nothing else, because he's too "stupid" (sorry, couldn't think of another word) to have any self-control or meaningful thought of his own. C'mon, admit it, Carl Marks was kinda on to something...

Karl Marx. Yeah, it was that important to point out my mispelling was it? Sometimes you really annoy me tj. It might have been less annoying if you'd have had something else to say about my post. But I guess we don't always get what we want.

I'm dropping a hat on this conversation, people.
That's right.
Cooling off period group hug, right damn now!

* did I need to put 'totally kidding' after that? I got the spirit it was meant. Hoping we're not all getting all touchy again, 'cause I know that happens sometimes and I get that it happens to me, too *
How about one big ;D smily and we call it a comment? ;D

How about one big ;D smily and we call it a comment? ;D Apparantly you did need to add the disclaimer...but what's funny about correcting my spelling? It's been a while since I finished my BS in Sociology and I haven't actually seen Karl Marx's name in print in a while....so, mispellings happen. But really... I don't think I'm being overly sensitive that someone responds to my post only to correct my spelling. If I wanted a spell check, I'd have bothered with it myself. And I know you didn't mean anything bad by it. But if it annoyed me, it annoyed me. Sorry I didn't laugh at the appropriate time.

I wasn't kidding about the spelling. I was kidding about seeming to be reacting in any way to your saying believers are stupid ...
Oh, get over here, you ...
* grabs Feigy and drags her forcibly into the group hug *
