After listening to the complete soundtrack, I do believe that David Newman did a great job of using the music to convey the emotion of the film. And I can actually, picture the movie playing as I was listening to CD.
I so hope my small, 1 screen, decided to show Serenity during the month of December. I can't wait until late Decemeber to see it again.
And my favorite song from the CD could actually be track 20, "Funeral/Rebuilding Serenity.", because of all the emotion in that scene, with the service, and the rebuilding of the ship.

I absolutely loved Serenity. But, the first time I saw it, the best part came after.. when I met Jewel and Sean! Of course, seeing the movie closely followed by meeting two of the BDHs was a bit too much for my nervous system and I stood there, a blathering idiot, while I got my autograph. Chris Buchenan was there, too. But I didn't get to "talk" (by which I mean blather incoherently) to him. Thank god for advance screenings! One thing I noticed about the film was the humour. It was different to the humour in Firefly. It reminded me more of Buffy humour. But that wasn't entirely a bad thing. That's my favourite, too. I love how the funeral music segues seamlessly into the rebuilding Serenity music. It's very well done and it's the track I listen to the most. I found Wash's death.. unsettling. But at the same time, it made my think: "My god. Joss Whedon really is my master now!" Still, it had me in tears for the remainder of the film. Of course, since I read the 'Serenity in 2000 words or less' piece, whenever I see Book's death scene I can't help but laugh. "I wish my last words had a better camera angle than right up my nose!" or somesuch. ;D I don't understand why some people are disowning Firefly because of Wash's death, though. I guess they just never saw Buffy or Angel. It seems a bit stupid, though. I mean, do we really want a movie where everyone lives happily ever after? There's too much of that in Hollywood already. Let's shake things up!

Well, I didn't like Wash's death - but I certainly haven't disowned the film! lol - I think it's a wonderful film.
I totally see the logic behind Wash's death, and I know that it's a Jossy thing to do - and yes, it does make their peril all the more realistic. But it still didn't sit well with me, whereas Book's death didn't bother me at all.
Also, I'm not the sort of Joss fan who simply won't accept the death of a character - Doyle, Cordy, Jenny, Tara, etc - their deaths didn't bother me, even though I liked the characters.
But......there's just something about Wash's death that irked me. It's hard to say what, but it's there.

I must admit, it did seem a little unnecessary. Apart from raising the stakes, it didn't really serve much purpose. But I still liked it. And, of course, I wasn't referring to you with the "disowning" comment. But on some of the fansites, every other day threads are popping up saying "Joss took the sky from me" or somesuch. People saying they're throwing their DVDs in the bin - it's wild! I really enjoyed the film though. And saw it, err.. *cough*six*cough* times. ;D

Oh, those uber-whingers annoy me as well - I may not like Wash's death, but I still have nothing but utter respect and admiration for Joss and the team. Over-reactions like the ones you mentioned are childish in the extreme, if you ask me.
I haven't seen the film at a movie theatre - but I have downloaded two different versions...lol - the other day, I downloaded a telesync (direct from the projector) version which has an excellent picture quality - so I'd say I've seen the film five or six times myself! lol
